Not to mention that they thought being back in the CL "where they belong" would be a doddle.

I'm surprised. Throughout the team we have failed to do what we did last season. I'd say that having many of our players from last season injured and new players in the team instead have played a part in that but it's surprising how long it has taken us to get up to standard.

The same happened at the beginning of last season but we had Sturridge scoring goals to win us games we weren't playing as well in.

Yea i remember you got quite a few sneaky lucky 1-0 wins while Suarez was suspended.

I wouldn't call them lucky wins, we were still the better team in control of the games. Much can be said of the games this season but we haven't had Sturridge to score goals when we aren't creating good chances.

Im not surprised. Not so much from the signings, cause they are all players that we needed (maybe balo aside), but everyone else cant really be faulted.

What I am "surprised" by is that Rodgers is not learning from his mistakes, which he seemed to have been doing up until midway through last season.

As far as attacking is going, we were slow clicking into gear last year, so im not going to rush into judging that. But, the rest is woeful, and it is not down to personnel. It is down to (evidently) lack of clear instructions and a COMPLETE lack of work on the training ground.

Apparently, Rodgers says that we work "very hard" on defending in training, and it works very well, but doesnt transfer onto the pitch.

This to me is 1 of 2 things:
1) bοllοcks
or
2) our attack is so watered down (comparatively), that it cant even score against our defense, which makes our defense seem like "its doing well in training"

You're capitano echoes Brenda's comments about working on the training ground:

"Set-piece defending is something we continue to talk about, look at and analyse. But you have to do it on the field," he said.

"The key to defending is your first contact with the ball and we continually don't do that enough."

and the sky is blue and the grass is green.

Talk about stating the obvious. But nothing seems to be changing. We are not getting worse and we are not getting any better.
The worrying thing about is though that now its so obvious our problem with defending set pieces, many teams throw everything at us at set pieces because they know we will cοck it up.
Having said that, our defense atm is very forgiving. If you miss your first attempt, dont worry, youll get plenty of chances. And if you fail, we will gift it to you thanks to one of Skrtel or Mignolet, or Toure, or Manquillo. Someone will lay it on a plate for your, or just finish it themselves.

Toor,

Do you think teams have worked out a way to play you possibly.

You was a surprise last season, but now teams have had a good look is there an element of them having worked you out, and nullifying your style of play and best players?

=====================

I dont think this is necessarily 100% true, although it is partially true.

I also think we have not had anything going for us at the same time.
I dont want to make up excuses (as you see from my comments above, im doing anything but), but many things that could go wrong for us have already gone wrong.
Johnson went down injured very early in the season as has flanagan, so we're forced to play blοοdy manquillo (i dont rate him at all... call him my pet hate).
Sturridge went down injured very early as well.
Having said that, we spent shed loads of money to improve our squad, and so we cant complain about injuries, which every team gets.

Finally, many little things in the game have gone against us. Whether its kick outs at balotelli that the refs dont spot (Senderos for example), or shots like jagielka's which 99/100 end up deep in the stands.
Also, our defensive frailties are increased when we are playing 3 new players in the team, 2 of which are new to the country and as a result, new to the league.

We will eventually settle down. We just cant afford to be too far back when we do.

If it took a full year to work it out, then all the other managers should be sacked.

We are not playing anything like last season, so this thing about teams figuring us out is crap

The only game we played anything like last season was Spurs away and we smashed them

Injuries to key players is what is hurting us and the new players are still adjusting to our style of play. Our performances will improve once Allen is back and the goals will come back with Sturridge.

Until then, everything is going to be bumpy for us and add in the fact that Brendan keeps changing the tactics going into each match is just confusing everyone.
We'll get there though

I don't think other managers paid that much attention to you until you was on a roll last year.

When your tails are up its always easier to play with freedom and get those decisions that Phoenix has said your missing this year.

This time last season teams were to Anfield thinking keep Suarez quite and we can get a result here, this year its more like defend in numbers stop them playing and we might get a draw.

Its what comes with being a top 4 team I think, its how quickly you deal with this that will decide if you finish top 4 this year.

posted on 2/10/14

Its not so much other teams finding you out, but teams taking a different approach when they play you.

posted on 2/10/14

Teams are just taking the same approach as they did last season as it's what works well against us. Defend in numbers, pressure the midfield and counter.

Whats the problem then?

Is it the lack of a decent (fit) striker, poor form, new players not bedding In quickly (I thought that was why you bought PL experienced players) or a combo of all of these

posted on 2/10/14

If we can keep most of the squad together at Melwood for this international break then we might see some improvement.

Depending on how quickly the new players catch onto everything, i see us improving towards the end of November and onwards.

not true.
you dont replace suarez straight up, no, but you can replace his style of play. Alexis Sanchez was going this summer, and from the club we were sending suarez. Poor decision with regards to that.
Also, Carlos Tevez is not dissimilar to suarez, and although a little bit older at 30, he would give you 2 years of similar play as suarez, which would ease the transition of other/newer players as well.
There are other players that could have slotted in to suarez's spot in the team as well-- and maybe not returned 30 goals (neither will mario) but at least the method of play would remain the same (which with mario it wont/doesnt)-- but that would require you not being so up for debate, as your comment clearly suggests a little "youre right but i dont want to seem stupid trying to argue so ill say your article is shιt and throw in a little "

posted on 2/10/14

and suarez is better than falcao and costa, but falcao and costa are both better now than suarez was when we got him.

posted on 2/10/14

having said that, i wouldnt want us to soend 16mil to loan a player, or 60 odd mil to get falcao whos older than suarez, will ask for a higher wage, and is just returning from a major injury.
