When you watched our atrocious performances against Chelsea and Liverpool you may have noticed that we didnt lose the games because of our strike force. We lost these games in our midfield because we lost the ball directly in front of our box.
---------------------------
We lost the ball in the midfield because our midfield dithered around with the ball. And why was that?! Because we had to outlets to release the ball. No one making the runs or movements for the ball players to pass to. You seem to think a team's attack is totally separate from it's defence. It's a TEAM. That means they attack as one and defend as one.
Liverpool, and Chelsea were got destroyed because they picked us off on the counter. Our midfield had no forward runners, they lost the ball, the opposition countered and GOAL.
City away was the only time our midfield and defence truly let us down, even then we scored 3 goals.
Having a pacy attack makes a massive difference to the oppositions outlook. It's the difference between them strolling about the park picking us off, or them being vigilant of our attack.
Do you not think having some fast outlets up top may help to relieve the pressure on a struggling midfield? When they battered us last season we were so lacking in pace it was embarrassing. Same against Liverpool.
___________
You dont need pace or quickness , you dont even need a strike force if you dont have the ball in midfield. You wont get into Chelsea's box. You need to keep the ball on your feet. If you lose the ball you create pressure to your defense.
We lost the ball in the midfield because our midfield dithered around with the ball.
_______________
We lost the ball here because Chelsea and Liverpool pressed against the ball. When we had the ball in midfield our passing was abysmal so that the we were only second best. We lost every challenge in midfield.
That put pressure on our defense and we were outplayed by a simple pass forward into our box.

Dear God, you have literally no clue GT
Here you are very wrong, Serial.
We will have the ball in midfield, but we need to quickly recycle that into attack. Before, as mentioned, we have no one quick to pass to up top, who can also help create more space for our midfield. so we just pass sideways. Then chelsea will pounce all over us.
If we can pick the ball up, then make a pass through to sanchez or welbeck who can run at the chelsea defence. Need to spend as little time as possible passing it around in midfield. Bit Like how Liverpool battered us at anfield last season. They got the ball off us, pass into mid, then pass for on rushing sturidge or sterling to run onto. Granted chelsea won't be as inept defensivley as us against Liverpool, but that's our best chance of scoring.
Additionally having quick attack will actually help us defensivley . Chelsea will be warey of committing lots forward.
I'm not saying playing with pace grantees a win, and eliminates our deficiencies. But with our current squad, I belive it represents our best chance.
No, you need to rewatch those games and work out what was our doing to be closed down that much. They were looking for a forward pass. Someone with some movement to pass the ball to. Alas, no movement, dithering midfield, counter attack galore.
There's also another side effect of having a slow attack. The whole team is pushed forwards because the speed of attack is slow. This leaves masses of space in behind the striker. Because we had no counter attacking speed, we couldn't just sit deeper and allow the opposition to come forwards. Something that killed us off at Anfield. Liverpool sat back all game. They knew they had us done over with pace. If we made a mistake, they broke and it was all over.
Pace matters so much. And this year we have bags of it.

No no, it was aimed at GT, I feel like he's having a wum.
GT is right.
We were smashed by Chelsea mainly because they pressed Arteta and Ox played central so every one of his mis-placed passes were punished severely
I would have Flamini and Wilshere play very deep, Flamini to man-mark Cesc in the final 3rd.
Ox and Sanchez simply have to play on the wings. so that we have a counter-attacking threat
As for the main attacking midfielder, I'd go with Cazorla.
There's also room in the team for Rosicky, but I'm not sure where i'd play him and who I would take out.

I am sorry mate but if you just cant point out the obvious I fear you fail to analyse a game properly in general.
Serial, it's not defending Giroud here . It's a debate of why we failed against Chelsea and Liverpool and how we can have a decent game against them on Sunday.

Absolutely not. But you're less likely to get spanked 6-0 if you have pace upfront to get to the end of passes.

Right back at ya. Do you not think our midfield might have been better had we had runners for them to pass it to. Men in space. Through balls/long balls that those up top could run on to. They had none of that, making it substantially more difficult to a) retain possession b) pose much of an attacking threat and c) pose any kind of threat without pushing up. I
It was a lack of options that contributed more than anything else to the poor midfield display. Although admittedly Arteta didn't help.
Speed, pace, whatever you wanna call it is not everything. Far from it. But it can be one of a few major factors in football matches and if we use it wisely you should see the difference it makes on Sunday.
Having said that, I am anticipating another disappointing day at the Bridge, but I'll be amazed if we get torn to shreds again.
