I think Balotelli has been poor, but surely we played our best football with two up top? We all know Balotelli would benefit from some support. If we see Lambert as a loan striker today we will be regressing IMO.
As long as Markovic doesn't start I'm happy with what we go with.

Damn shame Suso is injured. Two months out for the lad. He had a chance of forcing his way into the team.
No arguements with balo being omitted, doesnt do enough for me. If lambert is in then good luck to the lad, he was pretty tasty for saints last year.
Markovic showed some nice stuff midweek, the trouble is that he never looks like scoring or creating a goal, so far.

If we play one up front, whoever it is, we have to get players running beyond them.
Sterling is the only player who does this, apart from Manquillo on ocassion, oddly.
More of the midfield have to start making runs past the striker and behind the opposition.

Exactly, that's not good enough for an attacking midfielder. People are overrating his performance midweek, showed a couple of nice bits in the first half but was very poor in the second. He only looked half in comparison good as Sterling had a terrible game.
Coutinho and Lallana should be playing ahead of him.
It may be partly true to say Balotelli might not have had much great service, but he has had opportunities, and fluffed is lines badly.
Beyond that, the amount of times he receives the ball, holds it, then gets support around him, only to then decide to run into blind alleys and lose the ball, for me means Rodgers is fully justified in putting him on the bench today.
He needs to buck his ideas up.
You need to give these guys a bit of time, Balo, markovic etc. Lallana looks to have settled so does moreno, I think Lambert will have morem of an effect than balo personally.
markovic is an extremely good player. he just needs to settle and learn with the speed, and he will be one of the best players in the league.

and i still dont think lallana and coutinho in the same 11 is smart.

Pretty much agree with this, although I'm not so sure about one of the "best in the league", but I agree with the rest. I think he will be a great player given time.
