No WUM. It's an honest appraisal of a very average goalkeeper.

I agree with Teebs. Can see Lloris joining Real Madrid. They do have a "partnership" with Spurs, after all.
Szczesny is decent enough, but doesn't really excel in anything. A jack of all trades.
Shot stopping, aerial ability, handling, rushing out, distribution - the core attributes of a keeper and he doesn't really excel at any of them.

This season reminds me of almunia days, where 1 shot on target = a goal. Shez is pretty average so after fabianski left I was hoping we'd bring in a world class keeper who would challenge him, maybe even push him further. Haven't seen enough of Ospina to know whether he's that guy
Possibly, Teebs.
Who could we get who is genuinely better and worth spending money on, though?
Also Pete surely unbanned you by now?

I've always liked Begovic, and still think he can make a top keeper.
But then again, I thought Mignolet was a top keeper too.
Should have gone for Keylor Navas, really.
Miles better than Szczesny and had a buyout of 10m euros. Wonder if he knew he was going to be backup at RM?

No WUM comments Gunnerthru.
Begovic is alright, yeah, but is it worth spending £10m odd on another GK that's only slightly better than Szcz?
Would love a top, top keeper though. Makes such a difference
It wasnt meant as a wum. I was serious. I think he is on par with the likes of Lloris, Hart, Howard. Yes he makes mistakes sometimes but the above mentioned goalies do also.
Not sure whats wrong with Szczesny this season. He's clearly a talented keeper. Look at his performance against Germany for Poland not long ago. Maybe he's too comfortable?
Getting a top keeper with the right attributes for the PL is tough, and you're pretty much taking a massive gamble on any foreign keepers.
That's why I prefer tried and trusted PL keepers. Tim Krul is one I also like.

You're kidding right?! Sczcesny isn't anywhere near their level. Or perhaps, he might be, but his cockiness and lack of focus has prevented him from becoming a top keeper.
Teebs might be right. He's always needed proper competition and he's never got it. Ospina might be the one, but it'll take him a while (to firstly get fit) to adjust to the PL.
At the moment, Szczesny is certainly not a top keeper.
After he was dropped 2 season ago, he came back stronger and more focus.
I think the lack of competition is the main factor. If he knew his spot was at risk, he would work harder in training. But now, it is either him or Martinez...

Point accepted. Even PL keepers are a risk when you're shifting from a lower league club to a top one.
Wenger has only ever got in one top keeper, Lehmann. His other goalie picks have been awful.
You should buy RUI Patricio, he's good on FIFA
