Agree with all of that.
Was delighted with the approach, both in terms of making a point of dropping a lot of players who were underperforming, and also putting together a good performance from a tactical point of view. Plenty of people taking repsonsibility, good concentration levels.
We lacked ideas going forward and had some hairy moments, but that's to be expected with so many changes, so many back-up players out there, and so many players who haven't played an awful lot. The only individual I think performed worse than could reasonably be expected was Allen - he made some good defensive interventions, but is better on the ball than he showed on Tuesday.
Hopefully missing THE glamour tie on our return to the Champions League gives a few players a kick up the backside. Brendan can now tell the squad that he's not afraid to drop them and give others a chance, and even if a couple come back into the team against Chelsea, it will hopefully be with a bit of fire in their bellies.
Considering the group situation and the disparity in our form and Madrid's, I always felt that the way we approached this game was more important than the result. I think we can say that Brendan certainly is looking to address some of our issues, and got a much better performance from those players on Tuesday than he would have had he put the Newcastle eleven out.
I'm pretty happy overall.
Rodgers played the best team on current form. What is the reason for having a 25 man squad if you are not going to use it. Platini can suck balls the bitter little green jumping thing.
My biggest positive of the night was Can's game. I thougt he really excelled on the evening. He needs to work on his fitness as he does not have the energy of the other players but he was calm, composed, strong and piced out some loverly passes and ade some powerful runs.
I can see him being a huge player for us in the future

For the first 45mins, yes.
Second half, no show but that probably down to, as you say his fitness.
wasn't overly impressed with Can
he was neither good nor bad.
there is potential there but it's not realised.
