Even though it was a decent point yesterday, Lambert should still fack off and I will say this even if we surprise everyone and beat Southammpton. The guy is not good enough for us, we have gone backwards as opposed to forwards since he has been here, he rates players like Westwood and Baker, doesn't give chances to good young players like Okore and Grealish, plays atrocious football, and his legacy will be there for all to see: biggest ever defeat (8-0 to Chelsea), longest run of defeats since 1964 (six), worst home record since 1966/67 (last season), most goals let in in our Premier League history, first top flight team to be beaten by a bottom tier team (Bradford) in League cup semi-final. He has managed to achieve this in just over two years -- well done Paul. Whenever you hear him in an interview he sounds proud of himself. I actually admire how deluded he is. If I had done what he has done in charge of Aston Villa I would actually be ashamed to leave my house. Unbelievably this man seems to think he is the right man for the job, even if for PR reasons he has admitted he isn't bullet proof.

We have a relatively easy run of games up until Christmas, and could feasibly find ourselves midtable even with idiot in charge of us. I will still not back him if that is the case though. The man has given me far too many bad moments to absolutely not savour, and regardless of what happens I will remain firmly in the Lambert out group. End of.

"If I had done what he has done in charge of Aston Villa I would actually be ashamed to leave my house."

As opposed to just looking in the mirror having the same effect?

It was a good point, but no real signs of change. NZogbia could be the key.

Nice to be able to rely on the sp(u)ddys to make you feel a bit better though

1987 - an awful lot of people seem to think Baker and Westwood are good, having improved a lot, and will improve further. Grealish and Okore will get their chances. And no, the football isn't as dire as you make out; it's improved a lot since he was able to bring in more experience. No way are things worse than when McLeish was here, and he had an established body of experienced professionals to work with.

Still, you will see whatever you want to see. As a Villa supporter of over 60 years, I remain reasonably optimistic about the way things are going. UTV.

MPC, I appreciate you have been a supporter for 60 years, I've been one for over 20, we are both allowed an opinion.

I'd like to meet people who rate Baker and Westwood. Every time I go to a game people groan when Baker's name is read out, and most agree Westwood should have been dropped by now. Baker has been a liability for years and though marginally better this season is still not good enough and never will be. Westwood is a worse version of Cleverley and that is not a compliment. Delph is a massive loss but is still not as good as previous central midfielders like Petrov, Barry and Makoun (for some reason loaned out then sold).

So the football has improved a lot? Lowest possession in the league, fewest goals scored, chances created very minimal. There's being optimistic and then there is being like you MPC and I honestly think you are delusional if you think the football has improved and is anywhere near what it should be for this club.

I'll back Villa to the hilt, but I don't want to see players who aren't fit to wear the shirt play week in week out and a manager who doesn't know what he's doing manage this club.

And to say McLeish had an established body of professionals to work with and not Lambert is nonsense.

Joe Cole, Bent, N'Zogbia, Hutton, Guzan, Agbonlahor, and Given have all been retained from McLeish's time whilst Benteke, Kozak, Cissokho, Vlaar, Senderos, Richardson, Sanchez and Cleverley have been added whilst the likes of Delph and Weimann have gained much more PL and international experience.

*Sorry Joe Cole has been added, not retained

Villa1987 & McParland, I think both of you have fair points made.

However in my humble opinion until we have played some of the sides in the division who we would be expecting to beat this season, then judgement should be withheld.

While the last couple of seasons overall have been poor, I am not too sure many other managers, particularly the first season would have kept us up.

As you stated villa1987 we have set some unenviable records, but what you have failed to state is some of the positives that have taken place during this period.

Lambert has made some poor signings but also a few exceptional players.

Vlaar, Benteke and the re-signing of Guzan were wonderful decisions, while I think Westwood is a good player. (I remember a lot of Villa fans moaning about Petrov who used to play a lot of square balls), but I think you need players like this to retain possession.

As for the players he signed in the summer it is to early to judge, but Senderos, Cleverley and Cissoko look good, while Sanchez seems to be improving.

Yes there have been seem duff signings, Bennett, El Hamadi, etc. but with the reduction of transfer funds and wages available it means Lambert has to take risks.

Having followed Villa for over 35 years believe you me I have seen us in a far worse situation than now.

I say give it until the end of the year and then judge. If we are still struggling near the foot then something needs to change.

PS I think Baker is getting better each game.......never thought I would say that!

Also our style of play needs to improve.

The agreement with Randy when Lambert took over was that he sold most of the high earners and replaced them with supposedly hungrier young prospects. Hence Collins, Warnock etc going. Remember the fans were fed up with high-earning non-achievers and were fully in favour. But the heart was ripped out of our defence, and we ended up with too many inexperienced players, and too many who hadn't played together. To try to rebuild a team from scratch with young players in as demanding a league as the PL was bound to be extremely difficult. It's a wonder we survived at all. McLeish had nothing like the same problem; his problem was that he stuck with "experience" at the expense of trying anything new, and had no idea on how to improve things.

Of the players Lambert inherited, N'zogbia wasn't performing at all (think McLeish destroyed his confodence), Gabby wasn't performing and still isn't, Hutton was one of those earmarked for disposal so was put out to grass and Guzan is only here because Lambert brought him back.

The one thing I will criticise Lambert for is that he failed to use Bent's talent, and still does. I also think that the whole Randy project was rash in the extreme, and maybe Lambert was naive in buying into it, but I don't blame him for trying it.

Something went wrong in Lambert's second year; losing his two main striker's was a big part of it, but also I think back-room problems affected the whole team. You can't judge this season because it's too early, but my feeling is that we have a team worthy of top-half (except that we need a goal-scorer!) at least. Given lack of funds I don't think we can expect more.

Obviously you didn't go to the games paddy.

Apart from Everton & QPR we have played fine. To say you can't flag up the fixtures is just foolish. How can you say playing Chelsea is the same as playing Burnley for example.

As I say see where we are once we have played some of the teams in the bottom half.

I am not going to defend some of what Lambert has done, but I will judge him at Xmas. If it still is poor I totally agree get shot.
