Ken Bates has to take a lot of credit.
He had a fans' forum/meeting where before he even told Webby that he wasn't going to continue in the role past the end of the season, he asked our fans what we wanted.
And i don't think a draw had ever felt better than Hillsborough in the Milk Cup. 3-0 down at half time.
Yes thats is completely correct Flash, Ken Bates does deserve a lot of credit, we could easily have gone the way of Portsmouth, Leeds, Charlton, the Sheffield clubs and so on by the late 70s were a bit of a basket case in some ways.
First time I went back to the bridge (after a gap of maybe three years) when the west stand had just been completed...we finally had a staduim to be proud of

CL win over Arsenal has to be close to the top of my list. Growing up through that late 90s/early 00s period, because we hadn't beaten them once (besides a freak 0-5 in the League Cup) Arsenal had this special aura about them as a club to me that even United didn't have. Watching us beat them on their own ground was a true natural high, and kind of like Munich it was one of those nights that just felt like it was destined to belong to us the closer it got to full time.
Another, kind of silly one, funnily enough was Benitez's 'rant'. It was great selfless management. Put us all at ease knowing he was in fact going to leave, gave the players a bit of stability knowing where we all stood, and unlike what happened to AVB it proved the pressure he was under wasn't causing him to lose sight of his objectives. Always makes me smile and snigger thinking about it.
So many and over so long but being at the Reebok with my mates to watch Lamps slot home the 2 goals that one us the league is number 2. Being in the Alloance Arena with my mates when Drogba slotted home that pen, that is number 1.
Prior to that was probably my first trip to Wembley, with Chelsea rather than England, for the Full Members cup final which we won 5-4 against City. Both teams have had a bit of a journey since then.
A late memory bite for a late arrival to the joy fest.
FAC 1970 Webb's headers beating Leeds 2-1 at OT after the draw at Wembley. That was my particular confirmation as a Blue. Later events all mentioned here provided equal and greater joy. But that was the earliest and purest moment of sheer joy.
