In fact, I don't why I am bothering to respond here.

Tyson never had "elite" level skills

I take it you have grew up watching Tyson Fury?

posted on 23/11/14

Looking at that list again!!!

I don't see many (again) who were as concussive with either hand as Tyson was?

posted on 23/11/14

Okay lets just pick individual attributes and neglect the rest

I'll tell you what, I made a mistake, what I should've said was not 'pre-jail' but 'post-Cus'.

I think that quantifies things better for myself.

Well, according to you, he had no "elite level" skills?

I reckon he had 3 (the ones I mentioned) and arguably a rock hard chin.

Now, as I said, who else in your list had all those?

Should be interesting...

In fact no. No, no, no, no, no. Not bothering with someone who reckons that Tyson had no "elite level skills" as you are clearly a young lad who has grew up on a diet of Chisora and Fury.

Sure, you mention the names from the past, anyone can do that. But I don't think you comprehend just how good Tyson was.

I didn't say that at all. I said the *intricacies of his boxing skills, timing & footwork were not elite level. He had a very good all round game and some devastating attributes.

His hand speed and head movement was elite level. His jab was never, his footwork wasn't, his timing wasn't, his defence wasn't.

Also, rock hard chin? No chance

I grew up watching the same Mike Tyson you did, fooling nobody with petty nonsense

Also had an amateur record of 26-7 back in the day. But tell me more about how I don't know boxing

His hand speed and head movement was elite level.

So you just contradicted yourself?

I'm out now as you are clearly an idiot.

Tyson's foot work, head movement and timing were not in an elite level?

You, Sir, are a fool. Goodbye

posted on 23/11/14

Didn't say he had no elite level skills, I said the intricacies of his skills weren't. So no, try again

Loads of comments but no tangible rebuttal of my points. Keep shouting loudest means winning, cause you're fooling nobody

I can't remember nigh on 3/4 or your list moving their head and feet as quickly as him and being as quick-fisted with EITHER fist as him.

I mean, look at that shocking head & feet movement. The way he slips and knocks out with either hand is terrible

P.S As a MODERN heavyweight...

4 fights. Two 12rd UD "prime Tyson" wins and two losses. Douglas, Smith, Tucker were all 6'3+ and negated Tyson's threat. Holyfield was very good tactically and did similar.

Look at how sticky Tyson's feet are after unloading punches, his stance is too square - something that gave him a bit more power of two hands but upset his balance moving backwards - so he slips punches but he never slips out or away which allowed him to get held and countered. It made it more difficult for him to land power shots on rangy opponents because you need a good in-out against taller guys. Watch every fight he lost, it's the same problem, better tacticians controlled him completely. His jab and timing weren't elite level either, all three are intrinsically linked.

If you can't tell the difference between good footwork and elite level footwork then I don't know what I can say.

Also I've never questioned his head movement, speed or power. They were phenomenal but keep repeating yourself for no reason if you want

Good points Kayal but if this thread has proved one thing it's that the Tyson fanboys see only what they want to see.

Tyson's biggest win was against past it and scared stiff cruiserweight Spinks.

In any fight where Tyson was forced to dig deep and show his worth he was always found wanting.

That's not the sign of a true great.

Tyson had many excellent attributes and was excellent to watch at his peak, especially when be was knocking guys out. But that doesn't make him a true great.

You become a great fighter by beating great fighters

Giovanni, totally agree with all your points, but it is a futile debate. As you said, these people have grown up watching heavyweight like Tyson Fury instead of Mike Tyson.

Yet still no one has mentioned the match between Lennox Lewis and Ray Mercer. Mercer beat him, but didn't get the decision. This is the same Mercer who lost to a 40+ Larry Holmes 4 years after Holmes got destroyed by Tyson.

posted on 24/11/14

If Ricky Hatton had gone through his career without fighting Manny and Floyd, these people would say Floyd and Manny were ducking him and Hatton would've destroyed them.

posted on 24/11/14

What don't you understand.

Tyson gave up his heavyweight world title belt to avoid the mandatory challenger which was Lennox Lewis.

Floyd is ducking Manny by the way

Triangles theories don't work btw

Why do you constantly ignore the fact the Lewis (your greatest heavyweight ever) got beaten by Mercer?

Who else did Mercer beat?
Was Mercer a great boxer?
How can the greatest ever heavyweight lose to an average fighter like Mercer?

posted on 24/11/14

Do you even know who Ray Mercer is?

Is that why you are avoiding the question?

You make your feeble excuses about the McCall and Rahman fights, what about the fight against Mercer?

posted on 24/11/14

He never got beat by Mercer
