he has come into a team with no confidence and an atrocious defence. No wonder he looks worried every time a team attack us.

-----------------

I'm not buying that T Bone. He has come in to a team that finished second and into a defence that has cost the price of a small country. No excuses!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmmm, he has come into a side with a 20yo loan player, a £12m pound 22yo and a liability making things even worse, a player who should be leading by example is failing massively.

Plenty of excuses, we will see the best of Lovren without Skytel by his side, I am sure of this.

To be fair, you're being very selective and I'm still not accepting it.

The way i see it, is that he has came into a back 5 that consists of
Glen Johnson - A £17m full international with experience of winning a leagues (with Chelsea), FA cups and League Cups
Moreno -A £12m Europa League winner and Spain U21 championship winner
Mignolet - A £8m Full international goalkeeper
Skrtel - A £5m full international, with cup wins, and experience of challenging for a title

Whhether you choose to believe it or not, all these players have experience of playing under huge pressure and/or expectation - with arguably Mignolet being exempt if we are being honest as he is a bit-part International.

Ilori keeps getting injured which isn't doing him any favours, as does Sakho.

Neither of these players will make impression for us now or in the future if they can't stay fit for more than 5 games at a time.

Does anyone know when Sakho is back? He's been out for ages.

As for Skrtel vs Lovren, I've been saying for a while that Skrtel is a massive liability. He was the only ever present in defence last season, when we conceded 50 (barring the 1st 2 games where we kept clean sheets).

He looks good at times as he gets back and makes last ditch blocks, but he's always out of position. Another problem is his instinct is always to drop back which forces our entire team deeper which isn't helping our midfield either.

Having said that, Lovren's been shiiiit as well so far, but I think he would improve with another partner for a few games, preferably Sakho, but until he recovers Toure. Skrtels had plenty of chances, time to drop him imo. We should really have bought a RCB to replace Skrtel and kept Agger so our CBs would have been

Sakho, New CB, Toure, Agger (with youth for cover).

Is Sakho injured though?

Anyway forget the defence. Brendan changes it literally every game anyway. Form becomes irrelevant.

In the midfield and forwards I'd try and get some goals in the team.

That means Lambert, Lallana, Sterling, Gerrard and to some extent Coutinho.

I've not seen us play this badly in years and would be surprised to see us get the win to be honest.

We sit too deep as a team. We need to defend from the front but that is not going to happen with Balo or Lambert up there.

The midfield is sat too deep and we are lettin teams come at us. If Rafa was in charge I wouldn't mind as he knows how to set up a defence. BR does not unfortunately.

I would like tonights team should be:

Mig
Manq Toure Lovren Moreno
Can
Coutinho Hendo
Sterling
Borini Lambert

I think Coutinho's more effective coming from a slightly deeper position. Gerrard should be dropped.

Alternatively, could put Lucas in DM, Can in CM and one of Coutinho/Sterling at the tip of the diamond (both haven't been great recently so could be dropped). Also wouldn't mind seeing Markovic up front

have you seen GJ play recently?

Jimmy Traroe is an international player who won the champions league, not sure what your point is.

Johnson is past it.
Skrtel has always split opinion, but always been not far from a real clanger.
Moreno is potential, I bet we were hoping Enrique wouldn't break down again.
Manquillo again potential.

The player to be leading that back line should be Skrtel, he can't do it, simple, he should be dropped. Toure will lead the defense and get the best out of those players.

Why wouldn't he be? He didn't play for France in the International break.

He is back this weekend according to Physioroom.

Just that he hasn't played since he walked from the ground or whatever. He's only played about 21 times in two years for us though so who knows. Does Brendan even rate him?

The sad reality is that Rodgers has now got himself into a situation where, nothing but a win will do. And the majority of it is all his own doing. He's paid the big bucks to find solutions to problems, and now he has to earn his keep. He talks a good game, now he needs to deliver.

I never question a managers team selections until after the final whistle. So Im not too bothered about who he puts out because at the moment we're faced with choosing whether we want under-performing players or bit part players to start. All I care abot is getting 3 points and a bit of confidence and momentum.

01 Jones
19 Manquillo
04 K Touré
06 Lovren
02 Johnson
21 Lucas
14 Henderson
29 Borini
10 Coutinho
50 Markovic
09 Lambert

Best we've played all season at home vs Swansea in the cup, so I'd go with that.

He has mainly not played because he keeps getting injured though.

He has been available for 6 games this season and started 3 of them.

He was available for 26 games last season and started 18 of them.

Rodgers has played him in 21 out of 32 games that he could do.

He was even getting carrying an injury during the World Cup.

Shame Flanagan is a midget - he would do a job at centreback
