Confidence is a gradual thing. He would have felt a fair bit better after his goal but it wouldn't be sky-high like Aguero's would have been. I'm confident that if we keep creating chances he'll be able to take them. Keep him.

He's just not good enough is he?

Sell in January. Fund a move more Bony/Benteke.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....

The geezer has no boĺĺocks. The move and fee were too big for him, now he's out of his Valencia comfort zone he has melted.

We can't sell him soon enough . A non scoring poacher who offers virtually nothing else to the side, is

Ill suited to playing on his own and needs another striker to babysit him and actually score the goals

posted on 7/12/14

It doesn't do his confidence much good if when he scores he finds that he is benched for a couple of games. Makes no sense.

He was benched for 1 game....

He had several chances yesterday and should of at very least scored one!

posted on 7/12/14

I do think it is odd that he was benched in the one game that he scored.

Even yesterday, considering he had three good chances he could have at least hit the target once.

All our lone-strikers are as bad as each other, I would sell both and invest in quality.

We played in a very similar way to the Everton game last season, and Adebayor was smashing in goals for fun.

Kane and Adebayor have 9 goals between them in 8 games as a partnership.

I'd be inclined to play both at home against anyone from 3rd down, with Lennon on the right (or Townsend on the left once Walker returns), and I'd virtually guarantee we'd beat most sides

January should be very busy.

Out with Capoue, Ade, Paulinho, Dembele, Soldado, maybe Lamela if we get a good offer.

Imo break the bank for Schneiderlin, Bony and a pacy winger (Depay,Bolasie?)

shame as i like him, but its just not going to happen for him here is it

posted on 7/12/14

Bolasie is no better than Townsend. I'd put Andros well above him in fact

If Townsend was in Palace's side yesterday we'd have made him look like Arjen Robben.

January, and I think we could afford to let Soldado, Lamela, Paulinho, Capoue and Chiriches go and not even notice.

I'd like to lodge all of the above, get Yedlin on board, recall Holtby and do all I could to buy Bony or Benteke

Don't know if Milner would be an option anymore, as he's been getting more minutes at City, but he'd be useful with his work rate. We could do with more players willing to pull their sleeves up and get stuck in. Shame he doesn't offer goals though.

I wonder if we'll still be after Rodriguez, or Berahino in Jan.

Townsend is a small team player, and almost the wing-equivalent of Dembele. Good on the ball when it comes to dribbling and creating shooting opportunities. Otherwise he has no vision and doesn't know what a first time pass is.

Townsend is very average. Another i'd be happy to see let go in January.

i wld also say....had he STARTED the very next game....u may have been on to somethimng.

Not a massive fan of Townsend but think if he could learn more about his role he would be very useful!

like his directness and confidence just needs to sort out his shooting

------------------

That's what I wasn't from a winger - directness, taking players on, not letting the fullback stay close to his centre back and squeezing us.

There are plenty of players in our side who can get the ball, pick a pass. Too many in fact.

When Townsend plays I don't want him being clever, cutting inside and trying to thread balls through. I want him on the left staying wide,,terrorising their right back, not giving him a moments peace.

Maybe if we had that, and Walker at right back, we would see a different Lamela from the right

The trouble is spurs have so many average players, I doubt most club would want them. I can see very little business being done in January. What sort of nonsense thinking that players like Bony, Schneiderlin, etc are just going to up sticks and come to Spurs next month. Anyway there is no way that Levy is going to just write off £100 millions worth of players and start all over again, and I would not blame him. We aint fecking Chelsea or City, money does not just grow on trees. The players we have will just have to do for the foresseable future, it is up to Poch to make them work as a unit. Should not be that hard, other managers manage it on a lot less budget.

dropping soldado for chelsea was the wrong move.

the guy just scored, and we basically removed any confidence that goal gave him by dropping him.

If that is how fragile a character he is, then he doesn't warrant being here.

He's a 28yr old man, not a 14yr old.

that is a totally different point.

if we know he has fragile confidence then why are we dropping him just after he scored (and it was a very confident assured finish too)

these are the kinda players we need....like it or not...we need 3/4 in and around the squad who have been there and done it......

milner with his whole attitude on and off the pitch wld be ideal.

posted on 7/12/14

Directness is fine when on the counter, but it isn't overly effective against a settled defence. Sure taking on a full-back is fine, but whenever Townsend does it by the time he has beat the man the CB's, CDM, and GK are all in place to deal with his crosses (which aren't overly accurate). At least with Lennon he guarantees 2/3 well created chances a game.

Admittedly, I think Townsend on the left would be ok, but whenever I have seen him there (mainly under AVB) he has cut inside and thus been even worse than he is on the right.

"I want him on the left staying wide,,terrorising their right back, not giving him a moments peace."

^That statement would be ideal, but I have never seen him do that.

milner would be an outstanding signing (said that in summer too), but never ever gonna happen.
