Absolute Disgrace

Reading many comments by those who attended the game there was a staunch effort to distance themselves with the train incident.

These comments were widespread (season ticket holders of 30+ years, local and foreign based, etc etc) who were appalled by the ‘fans’ behaviour.

In regard to the trains the one scheduled for AFC left at 6.05pm, and the fans train left at 6.12pm.

This serial bloke is as disgraceful as the fans in the video, somehow trying to condone sub human behaviour. Borderline sociopath.

There is a reason why this video has been condemed as much by people who want him gone as anyone else. It goes against any reasonable behaviour. I would feel disgusted if i saw any human recieve this treatment, its treatment normally reserved for rapists and murderers

It has also now tarnished the reputation of us Arsenal fans. I was hoping this wouldnt go viral but obviously it has. Check out all the comment sections, and you see what the football world now thinks of us. We were always supposed to be a classy club but now we have too many Serial type fans, what happened?

The fans have every right to express their feelings at what is happening at the club. The board has banned all anti-Wenger banners at the Emirates and the fans are venting their frustrations elsewhere. Some of us have wanted Wenger to be sacked for some years now. I hope his decline in popularity and the protests gather momentum now, maybe the board will listen and finally do the right thing.

Hopefully any potential replacement manager does not see the video, as I’m sure they will be overjoyed to learn this is how AFC ‘fans’ treat the most successful manager in the history of the club.

Yeah, i bet Van Gaal was in two minds when he saw the "Moyes Out" banners being flown above old Trafford, right?

I bet Ancelotti had to be dragged into Real Madrid when he heard the vitriolic abuse Mourinho suffered under the Ultras, yeah?

I bet every top manager really gives a flying fúck how the fans reacted to a badly failing predecessor, ok??

"It has also now tarnished the reputation of us Arsenal fans."

No it hasn't. The people slagging us all off for it would be slagging us off for something else if it hadn't happened. It has changed nothing.

"I was hoping this wouldnt go viral but obviously it has."

Well of course it has. Everything negative does these days. Going viral is no big deal any more.

"Check out all the comment sections, and you see what the football world now thinks of us."

Who cares, really?

"We were always supposed to be a classy club but now we have too many Serial type fans"

This is awful, I agree.

"..what happened?"

The club shat on us one too many times.

People will always have different opinions. Personally, I don't think it is 'fake outrage' for some of us to think it's not great behaviour to boo in the face of Wenger and tell him to "F off". I do think the guys who shouted it are a disgrace , I wouldn't boo in the face of anyone, let alone the greatest manager we've had.

I know some are saying "past exploits don't mean he's exempt from criticism" and I agree, but there are ways to go about it - and waiting for the manager at a train station and telling him to "F off" is not one of them.

Exactly how did you expect this to not go viral? It was uploaded on the biggest video hosing site on the Internet.

It’s disheartening that you have failed to recognise the abuse AW was subject to.

I would suggest that as 99% of AFC and football fans alike feel the abuse was uncalled for, pitiful, and embarrassing, it is significantly more than “fake outrage” as you have mistakenly labled it.

posted on 8/12/14

The abuse seen in that video is pathetic. Are there really not more important things in an adult's life than the team that they support. Imagine actually being angry enough to wait at a train station after the game to tell a bang average player to "get out while he still can", and boo one of the club's greatest managers to his face.

All that being said, I can understand them being frustrated with the way things are going, I am too. They just went the wrong way about it.

Something that also struck me was the "get out of my club." No mate, it's our club. That single line highlights the sense of entitlement that many Arsenal fans seem to hold.

Wenger was shouted at, jeered and sworn at. Was is far and above wheat he goes through in any away game? Don't be silly.

I've seen the video and heard what was said. TBH, I've heard a lot worse aimed at him during the United home game. If your problem is only that it was said at his face, then i find that odd.

I have no doubt that Wenger loves the club and that level of anger towards him obviously hurt him. But the fans who travelled 200 miles to Stoke have been loyal to Arsenal long before Wenger came to the club and will continue long after he's gone. They have genuine grievances and they don't have a £8m a year pay check to fall back on.

It would appear you are measuring/sanctioning the abuse by way of AW’s salary, and the extent that fans go to support the team.

In what reality do grievances towards AW endorse the actions of the ‘fans’ in Stoke (or wherever it may be)?

WWSPD,

You've actually asked this same question multiple times without actually reading my answers, which would perhaps suggest you like the sound of your own words rather than engaging in any decent discussion about the subject.

If you want to be so overly distraught over the fans reaction, you can continue to do so. I don't really care and neither does Wenger or his antagonists. It just shows you're not really clued up on the level of discontent at the Emirates.

Maybe because your implied vindication of the video has been wholly immaterial?

I’m sure you will be aware that the widespread condemnation of the video was not a conscious decision but a genuine reaction by all and sundry.

You somehow believe the reaction to be contrived. A view so wide of the mark it is nearly as embarrassing as the video itself.

Rather than express disapproval of the video, you have chosen to endorse it based on complete irrelevance.

posted on 8/12/14

WWSPD,

Again, i don't condone the actions of the fans but i totally understand the frustrations which led to their actions. Swearing at any person is totally out of order, but the anger towards Wenger was totally justified.

Really hope that's clarified things for you, because TBH i'm a bit bored with repeating it.

And again, the main angst of my comments were directed at your insistence that they weren't fans.

Oh and the "widespread condemnation"?! Like from, for example, Gary Linekar?? The bloke calling the chants "disgusting" yet laughed at pictures of Wenger slipping after the Liverpool game??

Yes, the chants were a bit OTT, but ease with the fake outrage. By your OTT reaction, you'd thought they tried to lynch Wenger.

posted on 8/12/14

One thing though that genuinely confused me about reaction of the fans was, why that reaction away to Stoke?

Surely they must know that a Wenger side are perennial bottlers away to Stoke and we almost always get turned over?!

You appear to think there is a select handful who have invented anger towards yesterday’s events, when in reality it is the complete opposite.

On one hand you criticise their actions, and on the other empathise with them, and go on to defend their conduct based on events that have nothing to do with what transpired at Stoke, or have the slightest degree of relevance.

Had there not been a police presence (and barriers) to protect AW and the players, who knows what could have happened.

posted on 8/12/14

What, are you seriously suggesting that the most loyal fans in the club would actually assault Wenger?! Behave WWSPD

Being anger at Wenger is one thing. Swearing at him when you've just had your club humiliated is another thing. But actually physically assaulting someone is a different league altogether. Dear me, you don't half go overboard sometimes

It would seem you are endeavouring to mis-quote me to add favour to your argument.

If you care to read my post; have copied for your convenience:

“Who knows what could have happened”

At no point did I allude to, nor mention physical violence.

To clarify, given the furore of the ‘fans’ there is no way of knowing what would have transpired had there not been a police presence. It didn’t exactly look as if they were there, or in the mood for, reasoned protest but simply to hurl abuse.

posted on 8/12/14

Of course you alluded to some form of physical aggression. What else could your comment mean? The fans rushing to Wenger to shake his hands on a job well done?!
