Very sad as it is and it is sad. The young fella was going too fast under yellows. If that was down to his team or to him, I don't know but the telemetry doesn't lie.
It was reported that very few drivers slowed down sufficiently under the yellow flags. I'm not sure exactly how long this went on for, but that recovery vehicle didn't come straight out. If the FIA were watching the speeds failing to reduce, why didn't they inform the teams sooner, or better still put the SC out before an accident occurs.
And yes they have done great work on improving safety after the incidents at Imola in 94, and other incidents like Hakinnen and his neck head injury, which brought about the introduction of the HANS device. Without the measures they have undertaken, how many more serious injuries or deaths would we have seen. Kubica, Webber, Alonso.
But it seems unfair that they seem to be laying the blame solely on the driver.
I suspected he was pushing like they all do when the safety car comes out until the join the end of the train. It is unofrtunate
There has to be a solution. As much as putting an underrail on the cranes would help, cant help feel its a sticky plaster over s massive gash
MUDD, think you'll find they only brought SC and MC out AFTER his accident.
Charlie has a view of what speeds the cars are doing, he penalises those that go faster under yellow. Under the circumstances, poor visibility and wet track, shouldn't he have been ordering the teams to get their drivers to SLOW down.

I think this is where the drivers have to take some responsibility for there own actions. Only they can really feel whats happening on track

Ah! My bad, there were yellows waved, not a safety car. I remember now as there were arguments about why there was a green light after the incident.
Considering they do not have lots of downforce, in those conditions, the team should have reined him in

that's what I thought. I don't think they actually slow down too much until they come up to a car.
Terrible for the lad, but they are aware of the risks

The SC was out BECAUSE of Bianchi's accident, it wasn't the cause.

I was talking more about in general but a fair point.
MrT, with regard to SC and the push to reach the back of the pack, read my article on SC.
When the yellow flags are out, is it not the duty of the drivers to lift martial?
Alonso ignored them once and almost killed himself

jules did lift but obviously not enough , the point being when there is diabolical conditions with reduced visability and standing water on the track and a 6 and a half ton lump of pig iron right in the line of fire of the drivers a safety car should have been an automatic response by the FIA ,
to play russian roulette with the drivers lives by not having one under those circumstances with the before mentioned six and a half ton lump of pig iron lurking by the side of the track slap bang in the firing line of the drivers on a soaking wet track with standing water is absolutely unforgivable --
So the drivers should not take reasonable care when advised there are yellow flags
Gotcha

humans are humans with human frailties and flaws and the FIA if they had half a brain they would take that into account when allowing 6 and a half ton lumps of flesh penetrating iron trackside when the visability for the drivers is poor and the conditions are diabolical without a safety car -
just for the record i have seen much better drivers than any the current lot go off at much lesser speed than jules was going in better conditions , seems the FIA forget things like that

the FIA

In the days when the downforce and mechanical grip from the tyres was much less than nowadays.

I only mentioned it because of your speed reference.
The fia have done wrong, but so did jules
