Poch on Ade - ITK nonsense

posted on 9/12/14

“After the international break he came back with a problem with a hamstring and his back, and then he got a virus and today he’s not ready to play,” said Pochettino.

“I spoke with him today in the training session and he still feels weak. Maybe for the next few weeks or the next few games he’s ready to help the team.

“I have a very good relationship with him. I was a player, I understand my players and it’s normal that after the international break he had a problem with his back and hamstring, and it’s not easy to feel the same way as before. Then he got a virus and it’s always difficult to have that and feel ready to play.

“All players that we have in the squad are part of the plans for the future. It’s normal in the media to have a lot of speculation with the players, with the club, with a lot of things. But I don’t comment because I don’t read it.

“My English is still bad, it’s difficult, I need to improve and I am not focusing on reading the media.”

It's one thing to like it, but there are people who took it for gospel. They still are, despite the story falling apart.

I maintain its because he played for Arsenal . No doubt in my mind, either consciously or subconsciously, that is the reason. Gallas had it. Ditto Reknapp because of him being West Ham.

When Modric wanted to join Chelsea, and virtually went on strike, he got applauded by our fans. Keane got his name sung again after his Liverpool desertion, months after declaring his love for Spurs.

If either was Adebayor he'd have been lynched

If he had been sub standard his whole time here fair enough, but he was very good in 11/12 and 13/14 once he got the chance under Tim. Both very prolific seasons for him in terms of goals per game.

12/13 wasn't so good .

It's fair to say none of our strikers have set the world alight in the league so far.

That's how Ade's been throughout his career - One good season, one bad season, one good, one bad....

We were foolish if we ever thought he'd stay consistent. He is on one of his bad seasons so we'll just have to wait until next season for him to start firing in the goals. But I hope it won't be with us.

posted on 9/12/14

Where's the evidence for that? A bad season under AVB and one where he got frozen out at City (yet Mourinho saw fit to get him in on loan).

Put him in a team that is balanced and he will score goals. Put him in a narrow predictable side and you'll get the sort of performances Kane and Soldado pulled out on Saturday

Look at the way his career has played out from season to season. Consistency has always been a problem for him. He seems to follow up good scoring seasons with average or worse ones.

He wasn't really frozen out and Arsenal yet he had the one prolific season there sandwiched between two average ones. There's a reason Arsenal fans didn't rate him in the end, just like ours aren't now.

It's time to move on and get someone who we hope will show more consistency.

He had an astounding season at Arsenal in 07/08. The one before wasn't great, but he was 22!

10 in 26 the following one (21 starts).08/09
14 in 26 for City in 09/10

His record is generally good. There are anomolies but played right and there are returns.

I think of his 25 appearances in 12/13, 9 were as a sub.
He had a broken season at City

The fact we have scored just 18 from 15 games as a team is indicative of a wider problem with the set up.

Lol..I would love to believe the OP. Let's wait till end of January window.

I think it's more of people wanting Ade to leave than believing the press.

I don't care much for Ade. The truth is he cannot lead the attack. So unless Poch drops Kane I can't see Ade being a starter.

Kane already said he bases his game on Sheringham. Thats a support striker role.

Ade floats and likes a free role (similar to Sheringham)

We simply can't play both.

We have too many players that want a free role.

Lamela
Eriksen
Ade

You have to be one amazingly intelligent team to pull that off. One player always needs to be central and react to his team mates movement.

I have seen no evidence of this to suggest we can afford such a luxury.

Yeah there is. Even so we need better forward options. To keep faith in an almost 31 year old, inconsistent, Adebayor shows a lack of progression from a big club like ours. Same with having to rely on Lennon still I'm afraid.

Sadly Lennon does look like the best wide option on the right at the moment, and while he's here we may as well use him. The fact is he's underperformed for a long time, and we should be in a position where we don't have to resort to him for width, but the club has stagnated, so we do still have to resort to him. And even then I'm not convinced he's more than an impact sub.

-------------

Why sadly? Because you wrote him off?

The common consensus was he was expendable, but I think the proof of what he brings to the side has been evident this season when he hasn't been there.

We are far too happy to write off players who have done good jobs for us previously - and Lennon has been a key part of our good sides over the years.

If it was down to most fans he'd have gone in the Summer and Lamela would be our only option. Thank the stars he stayed put and fought for his place.

Not by me he never I was furious with him.

Adebayor is not the answer to our problems he is far to inconsistent, he cant score a 1 on one to save his life and misses 4 chances for every one he scores. For me its nothing to do with him being ex woolwich, RVP is ex woolwich but I would be jumping for joy if we signed him.

I dont rate Adebayor and never have. Yes he has had a couple of purple patches but we all know that stats dont tell the true story. I would far prefer to see a stat of how many relatively easy chances he missed a season I think that might put his ability into perspective

How can you blame anyone who writes him off? He's not improved since he first burst on the scene. He always seems to be injured, he doesn't add any goals, doesn't make those runs like he used to and scare defenders, his pace has diminished, and his crosses can be a bit of a lottery. I used to really be excited by Lennon but he's lost that part of his game. Sadly, and I say sadly because as you can tell I don't really rate him, he is more effective than Lamela, who is literally adding nothing to the team.

Spurtle

A lot of these players that are currently failing to live up to expectations were brought in to improve on the likes of Lennon. It's a sad indictment of our transfer dealings that Lennon still has a fair shout of getting into our team, but hopefully that changes with time as the likes of Lamela buck up their ideas. These things can take time

In the meantime, it's good to have Lennon onboard to fill the void

It's probably not personal, but Ade hasn't been doing the business on the pitch. Even when he hasn't got the excuse of travelling..

Maybe it is a coincidence that we had a team meeting and now Kaboul, Capoue and Ade aren't starting games. I mean that, I don't claim to be ITK

But I'd guess that's where this story comes from. There was one about Ade refusing to leave in January.. how do we end up with a bunch of caants that don't even care about their own careers

I guess he's made his money

So let me guess this straight... ITK's say there's been a falling out.

Manager asked about a rift which he denies. This automatically means that the ITK's are wrong?

Wow. They might be right, they could be wrong, but to imply that because a manager/coach says something then it's automatically true? How naive are you if you believe a manager always speaks honestly?

In May 2011 fergie announced after a game vs Schalke that Giggs was carrying a knock and wouldn't be involved in their game at the weekend..... The very same weekend he was trying to repair his marriage as they no doubt knew the stories about him sleeping around would be all over the papers.
