Agreed

What a striker , what would a prime Shearer be worth in today's market.............$100 million ?

Difficult to say.

He was a captain, influential, had bite. Scored ALL kinds of goals.

I don't think there is anybody like him today.

£100m - Probably.

I can't think of many other players who didn't have a “peak” couple of years.

Undoubtedly the guy sold himself short twice by first signing for Blackburn and then Newcastle. He was phenomenal in the PL and to be 70+ goals clear of the next best goalscorer shows how good he was.

I was really gutted he didn't sign for us in 1996, despite all the speculation in the papers that he would do. Always remember Gary Lineker announcing during an Olympics broadcast with some smugness that only Lineker can do that 'Shearer has finally signed for United - Newcastle United'.

What I find annoying is that a guy that was good enough to score so many goal must have so much knowhow that he could be passing on to young strikers today, but he chooses not to. Instead he's happy to take the easy money and sit on a sofa criticising and spouting the same tired clichés every week. In England we don't have many great strikers, but if he'd get off his fat árse I'm sure there is some knowledge he has that could improve this.

And he saved a lot of energy with a one arm wave.

None of this rolling about kissing the badge shît that means F all.

Hate when people out him down as a pundit, he knew where the onion bag was and often, he deserves his say.

Now Robbie savage on MOTD, that's proper deserved.

So your first clue was 3 United fans on this very article saying (in various ways) he turned us down....

Admittedly we are not quite as MASSIVE as City yet but we seem to have a pretty big pull

Wouldn't say the best in the PL. Longevity helps on his part

Henry, Aguero, RVP, Suarez and maybe a couple of others are better players

Best striker not best player. Facts back it up.

Great striker that Guaranteed goals.

I'm not sure he is underrated. If you talk about past premiership strikers he,d be near the top of that list. After all, strikers are there to score goals and not many will score more than him.

Us Tims gave him a back-handed compliment when we sung about our only real modern era legend..

We wanted Shearer but he's a whancker
Please don't take my Larsson away

Big Al was lethal in the box with both feet and his napper, consistent and fearless he absolutely terrified defenders, fantastic player.

Shearer was one of my favourite players when he was younger, and I too remember him when he was at his peak in the 90's. He was talked about the way Aguero is today.

He has since been eclipsed by the likes of Henry and Aguero for all round strikers, but let's not forget how good the teams were those players played in. Players in general though have improved from Shearer's era.

I didn't appreciate Shearer. Was clouded by my hatred of his disrespect to UTD,and his thuggish style.
Fine, you wanna play for 'Brown Ale', that's all good, but you don't leave Sir Alex hanging.
And it's so sweet to see Andy Coles name as the 2nd top scorer.
But for sure, Shearer was a monster of a striker.
Sure he scored some 60 penalties and Cole never took any, but he still scored more anyway, and for that Newcastle team and Southampton and Blackburn.
Fair play.

When Keegan signed him he said something like United were streets ahead and if they and allowed him to go to OT then we would have won everything for the next 5 years or more.

posted on 14/12/14

but we continued to win everything for the next 15...
Shearer... nothing!....

Disrespected Utd? He turned them down, how is that being disrespectful? United didn't have a god given right to sign a player, but maybe they acted as though they did which contributed to big Al's decision to give Whiskey nose the finger.

I'm the same. I was clouded by his disrespect of SAF and UTD. Couldn't stand the guy.
And even with his Penalty count, he still scored more, but as stated by Mclanelli, something about seeing Andy Cole, at one point the most criticised striker around is officially 2nd, with no Penalties... sweet indeed.
but yes, Shearer is a true legend of the Premiership, that, there is no doubt!!

oh haha, I didn't read it properly.. that was me that said that...
Yeas he did disrespect UTD in the manner in which he did his business...
but his loss..
