No it clears it,you should try it sometime, they sell them in all good chemists.
Paisley not receiving a knighthood after his achievements, was the biggest disgrace of the lot as far as football is concerned.
Fecking stupid Geordie prîck.
I'm glad Andy Carrot finally has a friend. He has spent 3 years talking to himself on the Newcastle board
none of them have done enough in the game to warrant a knighthood. Have to admit Paisley should have received one. And Clough.
The three United greats you mentioned had to be without doubt knighted. The Fergie one annoys me as I don't like his character but you can't knock his achievements and have to respect that.
I'm not sure the three Newcastle greats deserved it, otherwise we'd be knighting all sorts.

Paisleys omission is purely related to the way things were done then. Of course he should have one. For me the most deserving Geordie is Paul Gascoigne for unrivalled services to corner shops,i'll drink to that!!!!

Managers not long before him were knighted. Rightly so but how does that explain things?
They also had a good decade after he retired to give him one.
Bitter taste in me mouth...
your own ejaculate?
No argument from me on any point, maybe he didn't cowtow enough, hardly be a thatcherite with his background and can't imagine any government input on his behalf during the 80s/90s
Not a bad point to consider that actually. Odd all the same.
I highly doubt he'd have gave it a seconds thought but I'd have liked to have seen it.

Yeah, his omission possibly had something to do with the way football at the time was viewed by the establishment. Can't imagine any football person at the time would have featured too high on a popularity list in Downing St etc..with the hooligan problems.

Yes there could be something in that. Notable as (U19359) also mentioned that Cloughie didn't receive one neither.
Another poor omission.
Still, Bob was alive for another 10 or 15 years after retirement, he should've been recognised further down the line if anything.

As for Shearer, well he is the premiere leagues all time leading goalscorer yet some rate the likes of Henry, RVN, and Berkgamp much higher than him. Funny how we're quick to worship foreigners and not our own.

If only you'd have made this your article, you would probably have a great topic.

Serves Shearer right, if he'd of signed for Man Utd then he'd of won far more trophies and obviously got his knighthood
OP maybe its because the Charltons Busbys and Fergies actually did something with their footballing careers rather than pi55 their given talent up the wall by trying to be some kind of pound shop deluded local hero ?
Paisley's retirement in 83 was closely followed by Luton/Millwall a year and a bit later, then Heysel and English clubs getting banned, loads of hooligan incidents, with our semi finals in '85 probably being a low point for police trying to manage things. Thatcher's government then came up with membership cards, banning drink from the grounds and a midget sports minister that hated football.
And none of that's even to mention Hillsborough in '89, which the government will have seen as football's problem, not society's or the police's.
His death in '96 was probably just a bit too early for the new breed of politician that latched on to football for some cred (Bob who?).
And from what I've heard about Bob Paisley he'd have probably been a bit embarrassed by it all anyway.
Herbert Chapman never got one either...
most celebs who dont get a knighthood... who most people think they should, copared to others...dont because they have a few undisclosed skeletons in the cupboard
Interesting post TPNM.
As you said he'd have probably been embarrassed anyway!
Always Sir Bob as far as I'm concerned!
You make a very valid point op but as we have seen with United things are always different.
JT alledgedly slept with a former girlfriend of a player that once played alongside him and was vilified by the press. Giggs sleeps with his brothers wife and is held up as an example for kids to look up to. Go figure.
The article is a whimsical jape, yes?

Giggs not being a racist probably helped his perception compared to JT
