How so? I rate Herrera but he's passed numerous square passes to opponents in recent games. Simple passes that he didn't get right. There's no doubting his ability to win a ball, start an attack and at times play a real killer pass. But there's equally no doubting that he loses the ball cheaply in really poor fashion on far too regular occasion. He's not alone but is certainly culpable

Hardly a ringing endorsement of a midfielder who cost the club more than Fabregas cost Chelsea.
it strikes me like you pay too much attention to statistics
I watch football, and particularly cm cos that is where I played and part cos of years of being delussional with utd's cm option. Herrera is one of the best passes in our squad from what I have seen of him so far. And to me a great pass is does not have to be a forty yd pass a 3 yd first time pass can completely change momentum.
Drapers
It wasn't meant to be. But turning down first refusal on Fabregas and signing Danny (1 goal in his last 12 games) Welbeck in the same window wasn't exactly genius either. Different conversation regardless

A fair point...
The question then would be that if you don't see Herrera as top quality, and with Carrick at an age when plans to replace him need to be made, who is going to be that upgrade/replacement? Are Barca really looking to bin Rakitic already??

Don Draper's dandruff (U20155)
There are many players in the world. We have a lot of money, should not be a huge issue.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed, but shouldn't have been a huge issue last summer, but for all the money spent arguably only one signing was genuinely top quality.
But it was an argument I wasn't making. I do rate Herrera and think he can be a good player for us. He has a lot of good attributes but just loses the ball too easily at times. When all our players are fit he'll need to improve in that dept to start. Particularly when Blind comes back, bevause he had a couple of howlers early on but was really shining before the injury.
Herrera is a very good player to have. Whether he's worth that pricetag remains to be seen. But we could afford it

Shaw's a good mention. Was beginning to show why we paid so much for him before the Arsenal game. Miles ahead of anybody else (during an admittedly terrible game) against Palace. Won motm award and there was never any doubt he deserved to win it. Not bad for a full back in a game we didn't have to defend in often all the same.

herrera for me has not done anything on the pitch wrong, he creating chances, scoring, link up well with all our forwards, showing a lot of industry etc etc LVG deciding to drop him for whatever reason makes me question lvg not the player cos from what I have seen he has been what we have been crying for
Shaw was always going to be a success hence his inflated price
Both Mata and Herrera are clearly useful players for any squad to have, and from which to select.
Judging by the views of those I communicate with in the real, non-webby, world, Mata is under-rated and Herrera has yet to prove himself. Which I think is a pretty fair assessment
That, however, does not appear to be reflected on these boards, but then that doesn't really surprise me.
Yet to see what Herrera does offer, although I am honest and objective enough to recognise he hasn't really had a chance yet. But Mata makes me purr when I watch him.
Still, neither of them are as useful as Rooney.

David silva doesn't track back . Don't see city fans whinging about that. Instead they appreciate hims as a great offensive player.
Mata for me is on a par with silva.
Err do you watch David silva, he tracks back all the time.
His work rate is far far superior to Mata's.
He doesn't track back

Mata runs a lot, I know this is old but Carrick and Mata running a lot is no suprise. Carrick stride lenth is so big he can run like Yaya Toure when he gets going. No wonder Sterling when trying to outpace him couldn't.

Mata runs a lot to find space in the game. To be honest Mata looks like a hard working player but is slow. Mata used to scare me as a man utd fan when he played against us and now we got him we got a deadball specialist.for freekicks and corners but mainly getting those goals that make a difference in pockets of space.
Those stats suggest Mata has been more effective than Hazard but I don't think there's many on here that would argue he's a better player or that he influences games as much as Hazard does.
I'm not convinced that Mata does excel behind two front men either. This is the first time he's played behind two strikers on a regular basis (as far as i'm aware) I think Rooney's tendancy to drop deep and get the ball, often makes Mata unnoticeable in matches personally. Several times this season, I've had to double check to make sure he'd hadn't been subbed off.
