Hound, where did you and Dickov go for your new years party?
Jokes aside, top thread mate. Well played!
I think my first ever match was in the FA cup against Blackpool in 1979. Can't be bothered to check the dates. But I remember we won 2-1.

Commendable effort Hound, well put together, but you just can’t resist a snipe at your admiring readers…

First though, I also remember the Portsmouth match as I was there. Cotterill said that it was only pressure from the Rovers players that got their man sent off when the fact is that the ref had his red card out almost before Hayter hit the ground. How he got the Forest job after Pompey I do not know, and in a sense it is ironic you referring to SOD disparagingly as you do when it was he who dug Cotterill out of his hole at Forest. SOD was probably their only coach in recent years that left them higher in the League than when he took over.

Much as I too dislike Cotterill he joins a growing number of his counterparts in this league who, unlike Dickov’s apologists, see our squad as experienced and competent, rather than threadbare and inadequate. None say we are struggling in that respect.

SOD was our most successful manager for 50 years so why just focus on his final games? But then I suppose it is only in his relative unsuccessfulness that Dickov is comparable. SOD took over when we were below half way in League 1 but passed that point in his first few months and we never fell back at all, whereas Dickov has never lifted a League 1 team above that level. I think you are somewhat isolated in seeing half way up League 1 as successful. With our resources I cannot see why Dickov should be praised for it. Or is it just because he keeps saying how tough each and every match will be. Those who were at Peterborough thought they were poor, not tough at all, and we should have gone for the win. But then, we’ve all come across those who are no good at their job and find everything difficult. What is clever about Dickov is that he has convinced everyone that matters of this.

Back to the match though. I do hope that arising out of the much-valued clean sheets we will see solid defence coupled with more confidence in front of goal because City will be tough to just keep out for 90 minutes non-stop. Counter attacks may be a useful weapon, but we need to give their back line something to think about which I suspect Telford did on the last round. To quote my friends, the BBC, “City keeper Frank Fielding was kept busy, saving twice from Andy Todd”. JET will be a handful hopefully not entrusted to Evina though. You might guess who I would like to see picked to start and who I will criticise if he doesn’t get a fair chance. The fact is that if we are to be serious about the play-offs we have to have the courage to take the initiative tomorrow and beat Bristol City. That will gain us a great deal of respect in the league and perhaps give Mr Cotterill a challenge which could test his managerial talent beyond its capacity.

And if it’s any consolation I will admit that I prefer Mr Dickov to him.

We holding our own Louth. Sounded like Bulter was unlucky and Robinson couldn't get on the rebound.
