The Spurs comparison is very fair in my view.
Look how many players we brought in during the summer. And how many were anywhere near the quality of Luis Suarez?
Not even close and just the same as Spurs who tried to bulid a whole new team out of one player. That idea is flawed especially when you try to bring in all the players in at once.
So on to the hope bit. Spurs just demolished Chelsea. It's only one game but you can see that Pocchetino is slowly working away at producing a team, including many of the signings written off at the start plus phasing in some youngsters.
I can see the pattern being followed by Liverpool, perhaps dropping out of the CL this season but coming on strong after that.
Be interesting to see how it all pans out.
The Spurs comparison is merely coincidental, no more or less than that.
The players Spurs signed were signed for a club that wasn't in the CL. Nor were they signed for a club that has the kind of reputation that Liverpool have.
Liverpool, given their reputation in the game, should be able to attract a better quality of player than Spurs are. Yet I do feel that the players that Spurs signed after the sale of Bale are of better quality than the players Liverpool signed after the sale of Suarez.
For that reason I do feel that criticism into the transfer policy at Liverpool is warranted. Liverpool simply should be spending their money on better quality players than the ones that they have signed.
I think the Spurs comparisons are fair, but not because we both bought bad players.
The comparison is that we both bought good players, BUT with a lack of planning of how to use them and integrate them into a team.
Rodgers shouldn't have had to waste half a season finding a system that worked just because of Sturridge being injured.
Likewise it shouldn't have taken Spurs 18 months to build a team spirit.
I think both teams bought too many players too quickly, and instead should have built on what they did well, made a few additions, then wait for the right players to become available to them rather than spending for spending's sake.
Bar Lallana, who I think will be a good player for LFC over the next four years, a lot of our players were younger than the ones spurs bought. I think Can and Moreno have terrific potential and possibly Markovic too. The Balo and Lovren transfers have not worked out but will we end up getting half of them right? Yes - I think we will.
Spurs with Bale never played the football we did last season though, not near that level, Bale was outstanding and won games on his own, we played to a much higher level as a team.
The comparisons are there of course selling the best player and re investing but we saw the level a team Brendan can put together with the right players, Spurs never had that about them even with Bale.

You could say that last season and people might agree.
Now we know you were undeniably being carried by Suarez. The same way Bale probably carried Spurs in AVB's first season.
The only legitimate comparison is both sides inevitably got worse after they sold their best player.
Spurs probably did better transfers. Liverpool signed absolutely no one near as good as Christian Eriksen, for example. I also doubt they signed anyone as good as Chadli, such is the absolutely unprecedented cluster **** Brendon made of the summer transfers.
We've gone and wasted our money on players who although are nearer the finished article (apart from Eriksen and Lamela) without actually seemingly looking at it from a perspective of the players fitting in with the managers philosophy (not too sure what AVB's was in all honesty).
Yourselves on the other hand look to have gone after the type of player to fit Brendan's style (bar Balotelli who was a rough diamond he thought he could polish into what he wants). However for a team that finished 2nd, for you to go for players mainly in the 'potential' bracket doesn't add up if you were in theory hoping to make the step up... Assuming that was the aim?
Not sure RC , got the point of the article , I was making the point that it may take a while to judge the players . Even the spurs fans thought most of their signings were rubbish 12 mths ago .
Far too early to write any of ours off
To be fair we have been turned down by a few top players like Sanchez. Its not a matter of not trying. It was only a while ago Spurs fans couldn't stop telling us that they were a bigger draw for players than us. Siggy anyone?
