Gerrard Rubbish!

Shameful from Rodgers to drop him for the game in the Bernabeu. Relations look to have ended after that despite what people say. If Gerrard believed in Rodgers and fsg he would stay but,he knows Rodgers is not the man and fsg are looking to sell for a massive profit having got the club on the cheap.
People are talking as though Gerrard has turned into a rubbish player but the fact is he is still a great attacking midfielder despite losing a yard and has been totally wasted this year.Don't like the man and detest the club but to let him walk away like carra when they are the fabric of the club who could inspire the next set is daft. One session with carra and the defence would improve no doubt.

Nonsense, most of our best players were rested for that game.

Carragher got it wrong yet again. Rodgers has just been qouted as saying that Gerrard was offered a position on his Coaching Staff but declined it.In other words, he wasn¬t forced out. It was his decision alone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, I just don't believe a word that comes out of Rodgers mouth given the vast amount of cobblers he tends to spout to suit himself.

coming from a Chelsea you should listed to the rubbish that come's out of rent a mouth

I personally cannot understand people who slate Gerrard. One of the best English players of my lifetime who has been loyal to his club and country.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically they're sad, spiteful and immature individuals who instead of commending a very good player coming towards the end of his career will just troll, wum, fish for bites because they have nothing better to do. Best thing is to just ignore their attention seeking ways.

He's clearly decided it's better to go out as a first team player rather than fade away into the match-day squad and then just the squad.

Lots of players decide that once they can't cut it at the sharp end (first team) then they'd rather call it a day than cling on by their fingernails.

The only difference with Gerrard is that he appears to have decided on one last pay-day/experience in the MLS. Fair play to him, hope he does well.

Giggs is an exception, not many are happy to see their star fade over a number of years. I wish Gerrard had decided on a coaching role but clearly decided it wasn't for him. I'm sure Neville is no less of a club legend for Utd for deciding coach with England and be a pundit for sky.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion but look at this article. Nobody seems to agree with you despite club loyalties.

Stevie G is probably thinking like Lampard, Scholes etc he still has a few good years in him and does not want to stop just now. Good luck to him. Not sure he is chucking toys out of his pram nor does he strike me as the sort of man to think his loyalty to the club dictates it should be reciprocated by giving him say 2 more seasons then a coaching job. Pool cannot afford to pay him £7m a year for a slowly diminishing talent but the MLS would probably be happy to do that. Nor does he strike me as the sort to write an autobiography slamming the decision to let him pursue his football career in sunnier climes a few years down the line so we will probably never know will we!

Saying someone is better than Sol Campbell isn't that much praise though.

Last summer I found some maggots in my bin due to all the flies that were attracted to the food in there. They were all better than Sol Campbell.

Tbh I think this has proven that he loves playing football more than he loves Liverpool. If I had a great career at Spurs (massive hypothetical), but in my old age I was going to be scarcely used and was far past my best; I would definitely move the MLS to prolong my career, play regular football in an incredible environment in-front of a friendly and non-judgemental crowd.

How does wanting to play regular football correlate to chucking toys out the pram. You shouldnt judge people by your low standards OP

To be fair, play and live in Hollywood, as is rumoured, I would.

I think people have misunderstood me. Gerrard isn't doing anything i wouldn't do, but he has let himself be portrayed as that one club man and as soon as he is not automatically the centre of attention, he is off. I can't think of many footballers who would act differently.

It just goes completely against what he said when he belatedly retired from internationals. It was to prolong his Liverpool career, but he never added 'but only on his terms'.

The scary thing is that Hodgson would still be playing him if he hadn't retired.

Good luck to him wherever he goes!

I would have thought that, with an ex-England captain giving way to Father Time that a tad more respect would be given, instead of the inevitable wums crawling out of the woodwork.
Our skipper has been an incredible player, and he will be sadly missed. I wish him well in his new venture. If nothing else, it guarantees him more time on the pitch than LFC could have afforded to give him. We need fresh, new, young blood to replace him, and that's the bottom line.

He has been used well, if sparingly this season, and for good reason. At the Bernabau, our manager showed that he doesn't do nostalgia. Now that takes some bottle, and in my view, the correct decision. Long may Brendan continue to manage our team.

Steven Gerrard was a world class player and hugely important for Liverpool in his career. He wouldn't have got in to a best premiership 11 for me, but for his club he has been their standout player throughout his time with them. He's a Liverpool fan through and through, from the area who grew up to captain them and practically won a champions league final for them after an excellent captains performance. He deserves praise, has had a wonderful career and even though the last 3 seasons have seen him decline a lot, he's still been excellent at times during that period. Anyone wasting their time comparing him to player x and player y is being foolish. Gerrard at his best, playing in his most suited role infront of a midfield pair was a match for anyone in that position for me.

Wiltshire has had a mare here. Maybe it was geared to be just that kind of article.

Gerrard announces he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season after talks with the club...

Stops speculation as to whether he will or won't sign a new contract.
Also leaves him free to discuss his next move openly

Contrast that with Michae Brochure Owen at Newcastle...
He first stated he won't make a decision on his future until Newcastles position in the league was certain.
Then he stated that he can't make a decision until he knows who the manager is gonna be.

Then left on a free...
