The only way that will happen is if Kronke decides to sell to Usmanov.
Yep. We've been needing a decent spine for years. But it has never been addressed
One of the most frustrating things is that Wenger has assembled a collection of possibly the most technical and dynamic creative players during his reign yet persists with an extremely slow spine to the team that is seemingly at odds with the style of play he wants to implement. The likes of Mertesacker and Arteta were signed as stopgaps during that crazy summer transfer window a couple of years back but Wenger has somehow convinced himself that they're good enough for a team competing for the title.
A new spine needs to start with a new manager
More goals. It's the Arsenal way.
I don't think we'll ever have a good enough team to challenge with wenger in charge. He's good at identifying and buying excellent players in some posstions. But he has some massive blind spots in certain areas, he's failed to properly address GK, CB, DM, and striker for many years. We are always at least 2 players away from having a great team. So frustrating.
Agree with pretty much everything (apart from the Kos comment) from the OP. Said very similar things the other day myself

We need defensive players and all of our injured players back at one time. We are fine then.

In that case watch him closely with these questions in mind
1. How was his initial positioning like?
2. Did he charge at the ball?
3. Did he win it?
4. Did someone else clear up after him?
5. Should he have shepherded the player/ball out wide or slow it up rather than tackle?
Its not that I don't like Kos and I don't intend to have a go, its about identifying the weaknesses in the team and identifying where we could strengthen. I still remember a few times when TV had won a tackle and/or was about to clear/pass the ball only for Kos to rush in and try to whack the ball out costing us possession and at times goals when it went to an opponent. Some idiots on here were blaming TV for Kos taking the ball off him and losing it.
Kos is a very good defender, he's not in the top bracket of CB. But he's not to far down. He would get into a lot of top sides. But he also needs to be paired with the right CB who counteracts his weaknesses. Like is the case with a lot of CB. Having a good defence is often a lot to do with having a great partnership with a good understanding. I think we definitely need to replace mert with a top class CB in the summer, if we do that Kos will also improve.
I would put Kos in the top bracket, he would get into any side in England including Chelsea.
In fact I think he would get into any team in world football. We are lucky to have him.

That's my point. Someone on here was saying they rate him as 4th best defender in the world the other day I think, not even just CB but defender. He works well with Mert who as I said in the op and I rate them as a partnership but they also need some protection from midfield. As I said, Kos is one of the best CBs around at attacking the ball but does make mistakes as well.
My point was if we bring in a new CB they need to be able to work with Kos charging the ball down every time and with Mert playing a slower positional game.
I would like to see Koscielny alongside a competent centre back. Carrying Mertesacker is too much for a man with a chronic Achilles problem. He's done it well for long enough.
Yes I agree. Kos is good enough, not world class but not every team can have a world class CB. They're just aren't enough to go around We need a team that can play for each other and cover each others weaknesses as well as compliment each others strengths. They don't all need to be world class.
Kos needs a good partner and the defence needs help from a top DM. You could even put a world class CB to replace Kos in our current set up, and they wouldn't look much better than him.
For me I don't think mert is good enough for first choice anymore. I rated him highly last season, but this campaign he's regressed. Seems to be lacking the motivation and leadership qualities that he showed last season. Hes getting on a bit in football terms, and now he's won World Cup and got fa cup with us, I'm wondering if he's lost the hunger a bit now. He doesn't seem up for the fight. I think he needs replacing in the summer with a top CB who's a bit younger but also has the experience. I'd be happy for mert to stay as back up, but I don't think he will be.
Ox, harsh. Mert will be fatigued after the world cup. He has also had to put up with a lot of injuries around him and no consistency to the defence. It would take someone exceptional to perform to the same level as last year.
