We stuck a marquee up in the back garden (was a big garden) of our rented house. Invited immediate family and all our mates with no dress code, flip flops, shorts the lot. Turned into a bit of a festival. Top day and still talked about and cost next to nowt...

Also, banned wedding presents. Donations to our Euro road trip honeymoon only. fantastic days.

One thing that gets forgotten re: footballers as role models, is their incredible fitness levels and commitment to it. Even strict diets, low alcohol etc... is admirable, no way I could do it!!!

this is key for me......he shldnt be making moves until his appesal is heard....if its succesful then by all means he can persue his career again....

if not....then it will be time to show remorse and humility and do whats asked of him rehabilitation wise.

There will be a hell of a lot of humble pie eaten when he is cleared that's for sure.

People are entitled to their view on Evans but he's a footballer, not a role model!

I still can't get my head round why he's being treated differently to all the other convicts in the game.

because its rape.....

Does anyone know how "rapey" his rape was? Was it one of thos times where the girl just regretted it the next day, was drunk so screamed rape or was it like a "jump out of an alley in the middle of the night" sorta thing?

She doesn't remember giving consent, but there was apparently no force involved...

Basically, it's rape if she can't remember saying yes. Virtually every guy on this site has probably 'technically raped' someone...

It was the former Robben. The girl involved went back to a hotel room booked by Evans.

junction8, is rape really worse than killing a couple of kids whilst drink-driving?

So harsh... I think if alcohol is proved to be in the system it should be thrown out. It's nobodies fault that girls get smashed easily, consent and then cry rape the next day... Guy's life/career is ruined now, plus he's done a prison sentence...

"proper" rape is comparable, but getting drunk and having séx isn't worse than killing children.

It could still get over turned Robben.

Watch this space!

I think the sports media should be ashamed as well, every BBC article and title about him starts with "convicted rapist Ched Evans..."

He won't ever shake the tag regardless of if it's overturned or not.

Whilst I think we would all agree that 'rape', as in proper rape, is henious. To me though, there seems to be a few 'grey' areas as the law stands.
A girl gets smashed and indicates she is up for some hankey-pankey (the fact that she willingly goes to a hotel room might suggest that to be the case), however, in the cold light of day she decides that wasn't a good move and claims she was 'taken advantage of' and informs the authorities.
The geezer, meanwhile, equally intoxicated, takes the fact that she willingly books into a hotel with him as the ok, fills his boots and promptly gets arrested.
Not only that, the way the law stands, she remains anonymous while he has his name made public.

Clearly, not a good move to mix alcohol and pulling.

Agreed, no way am I dismissing proper rape but this sort of rape really is "grey", as you say.

Not only is his name made public, but he gets put on a register too!!

no of course not....but is that lad playing again...i don't know....did lee hughes kill anyone...i can't remember.

Lee Hughes killed a man and ran from the scene and was signed up by Oldham as soon as he left prison without any fuss.

The other guy, whose name escapes me, who killed 2 kids is playing again.

Fact is, all the campaigning against Evans isn't being carried out by football fans. I'm pretty sure the petition against him signing for Oldham was created by the same woman who started the petition against him signing for Sheffield United.

Lee Hughes drove his car pizzed. Caused a death, ran off and hid. Was convicted and jailed.
