JAG

Sorry to re-post the following as I know you said you found it offensive, I just want to know why?

https://twitter.com/joepbertrams/status/552822895106613248

The attack was barbaric. The attack appears to have been carried out by Islamic extremists. The above image is a clear satirical reflection of that and in no way suggests that all Muslims are murderers. You don't walk around with a blooded machette do you?

You may get people offended by this, but you won't get a sane person wanting to shoot them in open day light. That IMO is just all Western sponsored groups trying to smear the name of Islam.

What? What the fack is the end of that comment even supposed to mean?

Don't think 'Jews are greedy lol' is satire.

JAGunner, it was me posting that picture. And that picture does NOT, I repeat, does NOT, show the Prophet.

It shows a picture of an extremist terrorist who has just beheaded Charlie Hebdo (i.e. killed the top brass), and this is the response from Charlie Hebdo.

Meaning, you might attack us, even kill some of us, but we will never surrender!

All I can say to this is that these are the days when news media make their money, and half the time these days they broadcast completely wrong or completely false information

would that be acceptable or justified or understood?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who said the murders were acceptable, justified or understood?
___________________________________________

no one's saying it directly but by saying "oh people are offended and have reacted to insults" is kow towing to the nutjobs, who are brainwashed and believe somehow, that they are justified in carrying out murderous acts
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would u go and take over the magazine then, just to show u won't kowtow to the nutjobs?

I'm not condoning this attack at all, killing people for drawing a picture is ridiculous. That being said I can't understand what they were trying to achieve by doing it literally the only reason to do it is to offend Muslims.

Why do they have to be trying to achieve anything? Why can you not just accept that certain people both understand and explain their ideas via this method of expression?

The magazine isn't something that is rammed down everybody's throats, it isn't compulsory and it isn't free. What the author was more than likely trying to achieve, is a drawing that reflects a certain sectors emotions. A drawing that was meant to be debated and discussed, but most definitely not a drawing that would be used as an excuse for barbaric terrorism.

So called everyday muslims who were up in arms about some cartoons need to look at themselves. All it does is incite the crazy extremists to do this type of thing

There is no need to be so offended by jokes and satire, there are plenty of jokes about other religions, no one else reacts in such an extreme and arrogant way

True. People react differently to provocation. That's why its always wise to avoid provoking unnecessary situations which are likely to result in extreme reactions. And these extremists feel the west has no right to dictate to the rest of the world what is appropriate reaction and what is not.

Everyone should all stand up for the right to take the pi$$ out of these zummies, daft little posturing maniacs who dance around in their silly black dresses as a kind of death cult to try and scare us, stupid twerps.

So basically what you think is that if someone is offended by a group of people taking the mick out of their religion for no real purpose whatsoever, they should just stay quiet and take it?

What a ridiculous point of view.

If you are intentionally disrespecting someone's beliefs and lifestyle, which is what Islam is; it is also a way of life, they have the right to speak up and campaign against it is to minimise the chances of it happening again.

If you want to challenge someone's beliefs, that's different. But mocking and ridiculing it is not okay.

There are some things in life which I don't feel you should joke about too much and religion is one of those things.

And before anyone tries to twist it, NO I am not defending or promoting what happened in Paris because that is disgusting and unacceptable in every possible way - I am merely talking from a general point of view.

Religion has an undeserved special status in this world IMO. My own morals supersede any i've have observed through active religion.

'Is it really worth it?' Has to come to mind though. Sometimes to ignore serves better purpose than to ignite.

To all you Muslims who are easily offended by images of your prophet.

Get out of our country.

Andre, there's actually a lively discussion on whether freedom of religion should exist in the European Convention. All of the rights necessary to protect religious freedoms can be found in Articles 10 and 11, freedom of expression and assembly. There's an argument that religious activities shouldn't be treated any differently from any other expression of oneself, and I tend to agree with that.

I tend to believe that if people respect each other's human rights, society works. There is no protection, at least at the EU level, against being offended. It is not considered important. As long as your mocking of another person, or group, does not manifest as discrimination, attacks or other infringements upon others, then do as you like.

I have no time for people who think being offended matters on its own. And no time for people who think that Charlie Hebdo should not have been able to publish what they published. Islam does not have the right to dictate the lives of non-followers in the way some of its members attempt to. If I want to draw Mohammad, tough. Hate me for it, fine. Censor me, and there's an issue.
