You get the feeling that Smith has actually kicked a ball in his life whilst Chiles had his head in a spreadsheet.

I have BT broadband as well IAWR, I imagine we will have to start paying extra from next season.
At the moment its £15pm for non BT customers, free for us. Probably be £20-25pm for non and £5-10 for us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess Sky will still host the Wednesday game and BT taking over the Tuesday game.
I guess it could still be free, unless they think people will pay to watch the Europa League
I bet Sky Sports still continue to charge us a packet despite no CL football.
Nope, every european match will be on BT, it's exclusive. There will be none on Sky and ITV. I imagine BT will be advised to make a few of their matches free to view however.
Best news I've heard this year.
BT Have exclusive rights for both European competitions from 2015 season but there was some chat towards the end of last year that BT would sub some of the games to ITV so they may end up showing some game. Great that Townsend is going if that is the case. Now get rid of Tydlesley.

Anyway haven't ITV lost the champions league to BT after this season?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought it was just Sky?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, BT have it outright I think
You imagine BT will have to diversify their punditry and commentary team now.
Does that mean they'll capture other useless fackers like Merson and Redknapp?

wow...how the feck did they manage that in such short time?
Great for BT customers I guess but big blow for skysport customers. I wonder if their sport package will be any cheaper now..

I believe you can pay a monthly fee to Sky, for access to BT Sport.

Don't see how they can. There's always been more emphasis towards the Champions League than PL football on Sky, which is why they've consistently being pushing the "top 4 race" in our faces for the last two decades as it all leads toward their Champions League coverage They show almost three times as much CL football than they do PL football. There's no way they can charge the same amount they do now.
As mind numbingly stupid as Townsend is, I would gladly listen to him rather than Alan Smith.
How the hell is that man employed as a commentator?!
Best news EVER! Townsend is a bore
What about his tactics van?
got to be a spin off sitcom in here somewhere
@OP of course God is Ever Present.
I think there should be a ban on all ex-footballers becoming pundits and presenters until they have got all their coaching badges and have had a minimum five years of experience working at a club as a coach or manager.
Thing with Jamie Redknapp is that he is so bad I want him to stay, I love his repeat what Souness said approach.

Someone's got to pay for Thierry Henry's wages!
I sacked Sky Sports off earlier this year, too expensive for what it is
Who's going to drive the tactics truck now Townsends gone ?
I'm tempted to get rid of sky all together now there isn't much benefit to it these days. Might Go with Virgin media or BT packages. I barely watch any sky channels apart from skysports now. And now they have no champions league and just some prem games, which I could just stream if not on BT, it's not really worth it.
Wish sky didn't tie you into packages. I would happily get rid of everything apart from Sky sports. Don't really use any other sky channels. Sky one can be ok at times, documentary channels all show utter tripe these days, just reality shows. Lifestyle section is pointless, and everything else on entertainment is all repeats. Stuff that isn't is from the US aired here about a week late, by which time I've usually downloaded the episode to avoid seeing spoilers before its aired in the UK. Plus the movies channel is rubbish, mostly show crap films, and all the good ones I've seen.
I binned Sky years ago when they started splitting packages across channels. When I original had Sky ther was only SS1 SS2 and SSNews then they addded channels which you have to get to guarantee viewing all possible CL games etc. With Virgin now and just take SS1 and SS2 as add ons, BT Sport is (currently) free for me

I binned Sky sports and movies off last month.
Bill down from £92 to £24 a month or something
I have kept it for the kids channels (yes I do have kids!) and for Sky Atlantic which has good shows on.
Got BT broadband so still got BT sports.
Expect to have to pay for that next season but hopefully they won't charge silly money.
It's great that Sky actually have a proper challenger. I can see BT going big on the Prem packages in the new bidding process too, which should be over in around March for the next contract.
I reckon BT will open a new channel for these European games. I have only moved back to BT broadband and my contract does state BT sports is free for 12 months. What they will do is open a new channel and ask you to pay for it.
