Yes Hound, sometimes things like this Ched Evans business brings out the worst in people on both sides. Suddenly Oldham have tens of thousands of followers who pretend to be interested in them as a team and their players as supposed role models. Most of them probably don’t what league they are in and imagine that their players are all millionaires.
Back to the match though. Have we all read what PD said in his Star article? (http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/doncaster/paul-dickov-column-something-had-to-change-at-doncaster-rovers-1-7040739). It’s good that he acknowledges that something did have to change and that the way they played did not show the work-rate which was needed.
We have recently seen evidence of a refreshingly attractive style of play. Previous critics have remarked on the change and Dickov now admits that it has come after a much-needed improvement in attitude in the team.
Those who never lost faith may be complimented for their loyalty, but at least those of us that believed we could do better are vindicated.
But with faith renewed and results to prove it, we can tackle the second half of the season knowing that the whole team is fully committed. Can we now deliver on our potential and make the play-offs and as Hound hopes, go on to win that Final?
Eyes will be on Oldham this weekend and events will have strongly motivated them to provide us with a more severe test than would otherwise be the case. It is a challenge which I hope we will be capable of meeting and overcoming.
This week the Board have given us heart by investing beyond next May and Dickov has been honest in a way that surprised me somewhat and which earns him credit in my eyes. Let’s hope now that we can look forward to better times and more trust all round.
The Star write up was good to read and probably puts into perspective where we were, and more to the point, where we are now.
In my view we were very weak in the defensive areas and as a result our midfielders were having to put too much emphasis on helping them out rather than doing any offensive duties.
As we all know, since that department has been sorted out we are now looking like one of the best teams in the division and i am convinced we will prove it in the second half of the season.
The big question for me today is who will fill the void left by Furmans departure to play for SA.
I think Copps has the skills and energy levels to do that job and would like to see him play there.
Not many there and not many, possibly no one here either
..apart from me of course..
We seem to be on top ... Forrester hits the bar, not for the first time.
Just got in... Not miss much I guess
Hello Donaldo, I am here, but I am waiting for a couple of phone calls so decided to hold off. Forrester hits the bar.
69% possession, must take advantage of it soon!!!
Hello Alex. It seems a long time since you were in circulation.apart from the Peterborough game.
Hey Alex, I will e mail you, I have had bad news.
You lot are on the wrong thread, cos my wife says "You are always right aren't you!"
Ibere scores for Oldham 1-0 down. Mistake by Butler.
I have a few problems at home that keeps me busy.
Even more bad news 1 down
Bennett booked now as well.
Bu**er... sounds against the run of play
Its always better to say you are never wrong Louth,
I always thought that Oldham was in Greater Manchester, not East Lancashire.
Hello all, just got in.
Sounds like we had a good start then a slip by Butler let them in to create a goal.
Plenty of time to go though.
Oldham have not sat back on their lead, so the game remains open. Will we do better in the second half with the wind behind us?
If the wind is as strong at Oldham as it is here then it will be tough to play much in the way of nice football.
BBC says that Forrester has now hit the post as well as the bar.
I have no commentary to listen to today so am relying on text or comments on here.
I see Cotterill set up another goal for Brum.
Scunny 2 up.
Come on Donny
Looks like i am relying on text then.
Commentators have become less optimistic as the half has gone on, We dominated initially, but did not make the most of our chances.
There is a need for a fresh approach and possibly a different formation according to the commentators.
