Fair enough is you think Lennon is not good enough anymore, but neither is Townsend. He might want to succeed at Spurs but he don't have the talent too. I would love him to prove me wrong but every time I see Townsend on the team sheet I resign myself to nothing happening on his side of the pitch.
such a bad decision maker. There was a chance at the weekend where he broke through, I was thinking, yes shoooot what does he do? passes
when a pass is on the caant will shoot from miles out, frustrating player, another one that if he was transferred tomorrow would go to a bottom of the table club

Neither is good enough.
Maybe we should swap them both for Berahino?

this...but short term...AT as at least we've got a chance at changing/improving him.
azza is a lost cause...be it attitude or just can't adapt/get better.
not at all...do you think they good enough then..!?
Both average but with Andros open to improvement. Aaron Lennon is a spent force, turns 28 in April and offers little these days apart from work rate.
Andros Townsend still only 23 but still a novice in his career and needs more games to fulfill his potential. I'll rather keep him as there is more to come from him. His flaws can easily be improved(Not sure about the tackling though )
Deep down do people honestly think Townsend is going to improve enough to make one think he should be a first choice?
He's been on loan so many times in his career already at his young age, and I suppose last season should have been his moment to convince us he's good enough to stay, but that decent spell he had only lasted half the season if that.
Right now he's at a level where he should be sent on loan again.
Nobody moaned when we were beating Chelsea, Newcastle, or drawing with United. One bad game from the team and it's back to players not being good enough.
Do I think either should be the focal point of attacks?
No.
Do I think players like them can perform the unglamorous team duties in a very attack minded side?
Yes.
Do I think we look a better side with one of these instead of playing a narrow three behind a striker?
Yes
If we could sign better would I like to?
Yes
Are we in for anyone who fits that description?
Not as far as I know.
its not 1 bad game from those individuals thou is it...!?
AT is an attack minded player....whats his goals/assits stats like...or indeed chances created....!?
Townsend ain't going to improve, he is 23yo. Yes still pretty young but if he ain't doing it now he never will.
The irony is, we nearly signed Willian and he would have performed the same disciplined role for Chelsea. He doesn't score, he doesn't get many assists.
Yet Mourinho saw fit to get rid of Mata, who is an exquisite player who goals flow through, for Willian.
Why? Because he knows that a team isn't 11 individuals. A bit of hard work in one part of the side can help another flourish.
Townsend is incomparable to Willian other than being a winger whose stats aren't great
There is a considerable difference in the ability of these two players. Willian is talented, Townsend is not. I'm all for width which is why I want Lennon in the side but Townsend is just really poor. I agree that he's Championship standard

did you just interview yourself? yes
My point was about stats getting brought up as an argument.
Willian's stats are awful if that's the criteria we judge a wide player on.
Stats take no account for the impact a player has on a side as a whole. William playing frees Hazard up a hell of a lot more, to wander, create and score goals.
If Mata stayed and played instead you arent going to see both men getting amazing stats, at best they would be shared about, and quite possibly be even worse as a whole. They had a season and a half together and it never really worked.
Willian is one of the weaker links in the Chelsea side (even if he's still solid in his role), and they'd be stronger if he had better stats, but this is Chelsea we're talking about; they have lots of players who can provide the kind of stats Willian doesn't.
Spurs don't have as many quality players, and so players like Townsend become more of a deadweight. We just need more quality in our side, and neither Townsend nor Lennon are quality.
We have three players who are contributing regular goals now, because the team allows them the freedom to do so.
I wish people would get over stats. The stat you look at with Chelsea is they are too of the tree and William plays his part, which is why he keeps players such as Schurrle and Salah out of the side, and seen off Mata
I dont need stats I watch players and have always said that Townsend is not good enough ability wise Lennon is the better option but.................................
There are rumours about Lennons attitude, Lennon never lasts 90 minutes, yes I would like better than both but I would guess that Poch (like me) hates a bad attitude and thats why he goes with Townsend.
If that is the case then I agree with him 100%
Two average players. Prefer Townsend though. More direct and willing to take on players. Has more potential than Lennon too.
Hopefully we can get rid of Lennon in a Berahino deal.
Lamela should be fit soon too

The three that we have isn't always enough. It wasn't enough for Palace. Kane did his bit but Eriksen (who is prone to blow cold from time to time) and Chadli didn't turn up. Nobody else to turn to after that. The rest are practically a write off when it comes to chipping in.
I was buying it until you suggested Salah.. what a pile of average he is.
Townsend is probably on a par with Lennon these days, though he does offer a goal threat even if he doesn't score many.
Ideally we could improve on both.. Griezmann would've been good.. Konoplayanka or even Berahino might be more realistic options.
Lennon does not suit Poch`s preferred system, Townsend (it appears) is understudy to Lamela on the right hand side.
I would give WBA Lennon and £8m - £10m for Berahino.
Lennon has been a good servant but does not appear to be in Poch`s plans, Townsend whilst frustrating has potential to get better.
