The team scored 4 goals and he got 2 assists so hard to say he doesn't contribute.

I cannot help but like the guy, but he is never gonna regularly hit the back of the net for us is he.

got off to a good start, slotting away pens.. and I really thought that goal at villa would kick start him, but his goal record is very poor.

shame.

My boyhood hero Greavsie could have put that one away last night with his winkie

Susan Boyle could have put that chance away with her winkie.

His movement was good last night and his cross for Rose was so well timed, I can almost forgive the miss.

I think he's worth keeping if only for the movement he give us. He's got to get a bit of luck in front of goal sooner or later.

He has an excellent touch and brings others into the game well, without being a typical target man. He delivers a great cross. He works hard and appears to care a great deal.

If he was scoring then his game would be almost flawless. I too hope that he finds his scoring boots and we will have to hang on to him until the summer, with a lot of games left to play he will get more chances to get on a roll and hopefully he will.

Personally I am glad fans are not "getting on his back" because that is not the way to treat our own players, especially honest players like Soldado. If the summer comes and his form is still poor then we part. There needs to be no anger. He tried his best and it hasnt worked. We've been patient but then things move on, no hard feelings, wish him well.

He needs a psychiatrist to sit him down for an hour a day and watch YouTube videos of himself scoring goals in Valencia.

I still dont know how to he manage to miss that shot. I like the guy and he does contribute with his passes and movement. it would be great if he can score a couple of goals.

I can't help but feel his form in front of goal would improve if he practiced more than he does in training. You will start finding the back of the net more regularly, eventually if you do that.

I have heard accounts of Chadli and Kane working hard in training and that seems to reflect on their performances. I haven't heard this of Soldado.

As Devon says, i'm glad no-one is particularly getting on his back but its quite amusing how excuses are made for players who appear likeable personalities.

One player will be labelled shít, whereas we've heard "he doesn't get enough service", "we dont play to his strengths", "he holds the ball up well" and many others when it comes to Soldado. The simple fact is we stuck by the unproven, and got rid of the proven in Defoe - when quite frankly it should have been the other way around. I'm not saying we should have sold Soldado last January, but we should not have stuck by Soldado when he was clearly struggling to score.

why is it amusing?

generally in life people react different to someone the like, or like the attitude of, to those that they don't like, or don't like the attitude of.

seems perfectly normal to me.

Soldado is not holding down a place in the best spurs team now, so don't see a problem with him coming on off the bench. He is a squad player, and I expect that is what he will be this season. He will not be leaving, especially if adebayor is going out of the door.

posted on 15/1/15

Problem for Soldado is that when he does score (Everton), he finds himself back on the bench for the next game, so any confidence and momentum is lost.

I thought his miss last night looked like it bobbled slightly on the vinegar stroke, could be wrong, all players miss chances even the very best.

He should be playing more games, would like to see him playing just behind Kane.

In my opinion the move was too big for him, and he just doesn't have the minerals. In his Spanish comfort zone, where the pressure is off, he scored goals for fun. Big price tag, and the big expectations that come with it, and his bollôcks have shrivelled like woolly mittens on a boil wash.

The best thing for us to do is to loan him back to a Spanish club until the Summer, where hopefully he will smash a few in and we can recoup a bit of cash for him come Summer

=============================

It’s amusing because this is a football forum – not a personality contest. Why would you make excuses for a player on the basis that you like their “personality”? It just sounds a bit girlie to me. It also proves what I’ve said all along, which is that there is not always consistency on the boards.

How can you ever respect someone’s opinion on football matters when they openly admit their opinions are based on how much they like a player’s personality? As I’ve always said, my opinions are based solely on footballing reasons – I couldn’t care less who gives the most to charity or who I’d rather have a pint with. If a player isn’t good enough – they aren’t good enough – there is no sentiment for the fact they may give more to charity or whether they’ve ever helped an old lady cross the road.

I admire you for your honesty – but it explains a lot…

who says everyone else's are not based on football?

most of us quite like the guy, but I doubt any spurs fan would name him in the first eleven as things stand. ...

does your point even hold up? I am not sure.

Chronic,

does your point even hold up? I am not sure

=======================

What do you mean, does my point even hold up? What point are you referring to? Is it the one that suggests Soldado hasn’t proved himself in English football, or the one that says sentiment towards player personalities should not really be used when discussing football matters?

I’d much rather have a talented grumpy player to a useless popular guy on the pitch any day. But that’s just me.

When I’m watching a neutral game indoors, my missus always wants the team with the best kit (or outfit as she calls it) to win – and this is the kind of route your conversation is going down. Sorry, but I think you’ve let yourself down on this one – I really do.

posted on 16/1/15

I don't see what's wrong with saying that a player is likeable. Plenty of people want to get rid of players because theyre grumpy caants like ade, or if they are perceoved to have let people down, such as berbatov, so why is it not relevant to point out when a player appears ro be of good character ? I would have thought that being a good team/club man was a relevant factor in considering their value as a player.

There is nothing wrong with saying a player is likeable. But making excuses for them on a professional basis – like a player’s performance on the pitch - because you like them – is a bit daft IMO.

We might judge people in general on their personality, like whether we would choose to socialise with them or not, but not in the professional world.

I don’t like everyone I work with but I would still employ some of them if I owned my own business – because they are good at what they do. On the flipside, I’m quite pally with a few, including the scatty bird I sit next to, but I wouldn’t personally employ them or recommend them to another company if my own reputation was at stake.

Feel free to befriend a player because of how they appear in public – but you shouldn’t want them in your club’s first XI for the same reason. That is just weird.
