Tell you another reason to love Dave.

Have seen several people mention that he seemed to make a point of getting under O'Haras skin today and has little time for him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This shows the real Cinci. Delights in posts on Molineux Mix which suggest that players and fans have had a go at O'Hara today. Mentioned several times, even in anticipation.

Personally, I find that embarrassing, as I'm sure most mature fans would.

And this shows the real bute, needlessly attacking one poster while completely ignoring the posts of others on the same subject

Run of winnable games ahead. Nice to win 4 of next 6 to maintain serious play off push. Five wins would put us back on fringes of battle for automatic. Let's hope for further strengthening of squad to give it a real go. Shame we didn't cover loss of Dicko adequately in summer and embarked on such a catastrophic early winter slump! Hopefully Afobe continues as he started and proves better late than never in the striker hunt.

Let's hope so Lizard, would be great to be in the picture during the run in.

Our home games til the end of the season are really favorable as well, with only Derby and Ipswich above us in those games.

Jamie could have got sent off today for several yellow card offences. But I'm not sure that Edwards got under his skin that much as he was the first player O'Hara went to see after the final whistle to shake his hand.

Made a good story anyway

Great show of professionalism from Dave that, he wanted to punch him I bet.

Evening all.

1. When we have the ball around the opposition area Blackpool had 11 man behind the ball. We had 2 men in attacking positions outnumbered 3 to 1. Bloody obvious why we couldn't get a decent shot away.

2. I was amazed that Afobe didn't take it to the corner when faced with an open goal. He'll learn.

We were ridiculously cautious against the bottom side today. We desperately needed an early goal to open them up but labored then made one of the worst misses I've ever seen.

It ended ok in the end but we've got to be more positive and creative against these lower sides.

I fear that will be our ultimate undoing goldi, failing to open up lesser teams that sit deep, we need some midfield creativity.

Afobe is prolific though, a goal every 33 minutes for Wolves.

Just seen Dave's miss again on the FL show looked even worse second time. At the time i thought he was reluctant to square to Dicko for fear of him being offside but Nouha checked his run well.

Interesting selection dilemma for next week. Who gets dropped for Afone?

For fear of being labeled a fool or something similar I am gonna take the safe option and say Ikeme.

Henry. Not a Championship quality player.

posted on 18/1/15

I like henry personally, he isn't a marauding, hung ho attacker but he is smart and tidy.

It is quite possible he is the one to make way though, but not sure how we set up then and for me dicko and Afobe need to be on the pitch, at least for a few games to see how they work.

Really don't want to see either pushed out wide either, though maybe it will be 4-3-3?

Or maybe just one of Price or McDonald will be in?

Time will tell.

FL SHOW YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED, THE COVERAGE OF YESTERDAY WAS ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. ....WHY DID THEY EVEN BOTHER

posted on 18/1/15

i guess in the slightly longer term the question is actually who do we play when sako is back. it's easy enough to drop henry for afobe but that still leaves the dilemma when our real LM returns. sako will come straight back into the team, meaning if we want to accommodate afobe and dicko, someone else is going to have to drop back to the bench.

that probably means edwards or rvlp. I don't think that KJ will disrupt the price/kmc CM partnership again now that he has remembered a big part of why we were so successful last season.

assuming we stick with the 4231 formation (or something like that) it's a question of whether afobe is preferred in the hole behind dicko, or coming in off the right. he did both things yesterday in a fairly fluid front four. so the simple question might be who has been more effective so far this season - edwards or rvlp

edwards has been much more influential and consistent out of the two. rvlp looks good against a side that sits back and lets him run at them, but has been less impressive when the game's been more even. his crossing is also pretty poor right now, with a lot of wasted balls yesterday frustrating the crowd until he kicked into gear for the last twenty minutes or so.

of course the other option is a bit more radical. KJ continues for a couple of games with the side that is currently winning matches. afobe is used off the bench and we see how good he really is before announcing him the new messiah.

For what it's worth here is my assessment:

Ikeme 7 Had very little to do as Blackpool have no attacking threat - none - none whatsoever.
Iorfa 8 Another competent perfomance both defensively and when getting forward.
Batth 8 Solid and reliableand a couple of very nice long balls.
Stearman 7 Did well but seemed very awkward on the ball.
Hause 6 Not his best game and was rightly subbed
Price 8 My MOM. His vision and accurate passing are a result of always finding space to work in. Also got a foot in when needed.
McDonald 7 Again, not his best game.
Van La Parra 8 Worked hard and stripped their defence time and time again.
Edwards 7 Poor first half but improved in the second. Made some bad mistakes and poor descisions but once the ball hits the back of the net, everything that has gone before is forgiven. Did a 'job' on O'Hara.
Henry 6 Never really got into the game as he is invisible on the left. Would like to have seen him and RVLP swap sides occassionally to give Henry a chance to play a bit.
Dicko 6 Not his best game either but to be fair he was confronted by a wall of Blackpool shirts most of the time.
Afobe 8 Excellent debut. Confident on the ball and involved in eveything. Will never score an easier goal but got it as a reward for using his pace (Clarke would not have scored that goal)
Jackett 8 Should have played less defensively and gone for a big score. However got the subs just right and deserved his 3 points.

Stick with 4-2-3-1 with Afobe and Dicko fighting it out for the striker slot and if we find ourselves chasing a game or struggling to break down the opposition swap to a 4-4-2 diamond with either McDonald or Price making way for Afobe or Dicko

........Price/McDonald
vLP............................Sako
............Edwards
........Dicko.....Afobe

dances,

agree with a lot of your scores. think you have rvlp a little high - it was one of those flattered to deceive performances for me. beat his full back time and again only to waste the final ball with some pretty poor crosses.

he did find his range in the last twenty minutes and put in a couple of cracking balls that dicko and afobe could have scored from (as well as the one Edwards did score from) but this was against a side that were allowing him to run at them repeatedly.

when we play the better teams we may have a quarter of the opportunities Rajiv had yesterday and he needs to make them count. I think he'll learn - gigs was a very average crosser of the ball when he first started playing for man u - and I'm pleased he has fought his way back into the reckoning, but he's a way to go yet.

iorfa looked really good again I thought. best of the new young crop IMO.

I agree, KJ may well stick with that system. we need to see more of afobe and see where his best position is. plus just how good he can be. but we also have a side that is on a 6 game unbeaten run with 16 points from the last 18. so no major changes just yet.

I agree GB if it ain’t broke....

What we do now have is an option when things aren’t going well or if Jackett wants to set up differently to counter a specific style from the opposition.

Where teams have intent to attack 4-2-3-1 will probably still serve us very well but when we come up against a team like Blackpool who started deep and got deeper we do now have a plan B.

Afobe still has plenty to prove but he’s started in the right vein.
