I'm pretty sure if you offer the right money for the player then clubs will be more receptive to listening, January or not.
I don't think Swansea wanted to sell Bony but £25m plus was too good to turn down.
We still put in ridiculous offers for players, just look at the Polish lad we just signed, umming and arring over a few thousand pounds. While we're still doing this is it any wonder we never get the player we need!
If I was Wenger I would blame the previous regime as well. ......oh wait.
That is a bunch of bóllocks!
Pardew said yesterday clubs will ask ridiculous prices at first and in the last week business will start to happen. The Jan window should be a week long since all the clubs spend the first 3 and a half weeks pis sing about.
Wenger said yday that if we don't find a defender then we'll cope with what we have which imo was a hint to selling clubs. The chances are we know which defenders we want and Man Utd and other clubs wants the same players.
"Wenger said yday that if we don't find a defender then we'll cope..."
-----
He also said that not signing a defender this month would be "too risky".
Where's the bluff in that?
We're just saving ourselves from paying "dizzying" prices guys, no need to worry. I'm sure we'll buy a CB between now and kick off if Koscielny's Achilles explodes in the warm up
We're looking at Gabriel Paulista from Villareal. Anyone know much about him?
Setting himself up for the 'we tried' excuse if we sign no one.
We are only potentially looking because of kosc constant injury and the fact that debuchy is out
If everyone had been fit for most of the season we would not be looking at anyone
Surely we should have identified all targets before the window even opened.
Why do we have to be so reactive to the market? We should be forcing the market...
Apparently szcz is back for the game
If bellerin does well, he'll think that's RB sorted, with chambers as cover. If Kos and mert remain fit, with Monreal and chambers to cover CB, then likes of flamini and coq to cover fall back, then bielik to cover DM. I wouldn't at all be surprised if he thought that'll be enough to see out the season. He prefers square pegs in round holes over buying new players on the whole.
I'm relatively confident we'll sign at least 1 CB, but won't be surprised if we do nothing
Winston Reid on the bench for West ham
I'm pretty sure if you offer the right money for the player then clubs will be more receptive to listening, January or not.
_______
I am sorry mate but this is not how the market working not at least how we are doing business.
The players we are after playing usually in clubs who have enough money. They wont sell their best players in the first place see Hummels at Dortmund. You can table millions on him if you like, Dortmund wont sell him especially now that they are in the relegation zone.
Wenger is nothing short of a joke. It's like he's waiting for defenders to be publicly put up for sale. How about you identify a target and bid a fair amount of money for a change, Arsene?
And it seems like we won't be getting a DM because he thinks a 17 year old youth player is the answer, like he did with Chambers. He is a dinosaur and will never learn or adapt.

You are right, with regards to Hummels. But what about Nastasic? Or Winston Reid? Or Shawcross? Or John Stones?
None of them world class, by any means, but would you rather see any of them at CB for you, or Monreal?

That's what I am saying mate. Probably players Wenger dont rate enough to improve us immediately. Not saying that I agree with this opinion.
Nastasic is a risk because he didnt play enough and obviously he didnt make it at City. Why do you expect him to do well at Arsenal out of a sudden?
Monreal? One of the most underrated players in your whole squad. He did tremendously well for us even as a CB. Very pleased with him.
I'm not sure Wenger is looking for a world class defender anyway, he keeps those sort of funds for the attacking side of the squad only. He rarely pays over £13m for a defender. Hence why we are in this defensive problem.
So paying what is needed for 3rd CB doesn't have to be over the odds.

Don't see enough of Monreal, but if Wenger is happy with the quality of his first 11, surely there is still a need for more back-up? ie someone who doesn't need to improve on Monreal/Kos/Mert etc, but someone to avoid the need to play Flamini as an emergency CB if you suffer any more injuries?
Master is right, paying £10m for a 3rd choice CB shouldn't stretch anyone too much, and the scouts should have a list of 30 to choose from who could move (not every club in Europe is in the CL/fighting for a title/fighting relegation).
Well we need 1 better 2 new defensive players that's for sure. There is absolute no doubt about that.

Do we think AW has any doubt about that?
Think Wenger must be at least slightly concerned about Kos' long term fitness. With that concern must also be a doubt as to Merte's effectiveness in the side, unless a replacement that compliments the German's game can be found and, of course, signed.
Interesting observation from you abt Mert Lex.
I have to ask. Should we build a defence around someone who is 30 and slow? Or would it be wiser to replace him?
As you know I hate our slow spine. And in fact Henry has just been talking abt that as well, suggesting we have gone backwards over the last few years, precisely because of the lack of strong physical players like Vieira and Gilberto. The key surely should be really replacing the spine completely with fit, younger, faster players?

That has been our biggest priority for the last 2 or 3 seasons but unfortunately Wenger seems not to appreciate the importance of athleticism. His persistence with slow centre forwards and sluggish holders, along with his long-standing preference for nimble playmakers over pacey wingers all demonstrate to me that he believes superior technique is the be all and end all. Which has never worked in the history of the game as even the most technical sides such as Barcelona, Spain, Bayern etc. have needed athletic players to be able to play a high line and press, which in turn allows those technical players to thrive.
