I'd love to see Ramsey and Jack become far more disciplined. It might be against their will but they could do the job at the base of midfield.
Cazorla Ramsey
Ozil
could work imo in 'easier' games. Not sure Ozil would have helped today if im honest.
Think even Wenger won't shunt Cazorla out wide now.
Suspect Ozil will play wide when he's fit enough.
Spot on Sheriff! He is more of a Cm to me than a No 10 anyway. He has been getting stuck in too!
One thing is for sure, Sheriff. If Özil wants to play in the middle he will have to put some performances in to get back. Well I am happy with that.....competition on places is good for all players.
Rest Santi against Brighton and see how ozil does. If genuine competition for his place doesn't jolt him, nothing will.
Cazorla has pretty much bossed every game he has played in the central mf position
Only way back for Ozil is another injury crisis which is quite probable or loss of form from our current midfielders. Sanchez,OX, Santi , Rambo, Tommy...Theo ...all ahead of him at the moment.
I would take an offer of £30m for Ozil if it meant that we could get a decent DM. I see Ozil as a luxury player. Don't think that he has the "mental strength" for the Prem.
Still not 100% convinced that Coq is the long-term solution, although he has played well in the last 2 games.
He was the best player on view today but he is not a spring chicken, so we need to think ahead.
Pirlo made the move from attacker to CM..Arteta did too..Maybe Wenger can train Santi for that role long term..He is intelligent, great feet and skills, also great range of passing, only thing that might hold him back is major factor! his physicality..
For now Santi is made for CAM role..he was amazing in that role and major factor behind Arsenal finishing Top 4..before Wenger decided to shove him out wide to justify Oil's price and destroy his confidence and game..
I remember fickle Arsenal fans abusing him and asking him to be dropped, sold etc.etc. So, glad he got his deserved place in the side back..even at the expense of 42 million flop.
Personally I reckon we could try a midfield diamond:
Coq/DM
Cazorla Ramsey/Wilshere
Ozil
Giroud Sanchez
Would mean sacrificing a bit of width but then we're not too reliant on orthodox wingplay or crosses anyway - the Ox and Sanchez tend to cut inside, and it's often the fullbacks that really get forward down the sides.
Ozil definitely is a luxury player
Good point. I've long thought this as well.
As I posted previously:
'Honestly, I wouldn't be against trying Cazorla in the deeper-lying midfield role (alongside Flamini) and Ozil playing just ahead of him.
Cazorla's defensive contribution is very underrated, IMO, and he has a better range of passing than Wilshere or Ramsey - his ability to switch play to the flanks is unparalleled in our squad - allowing him to dictate the game from deep.
As good as Ramsey and Wilshere are, they both tend to drive forward into the final third/to the edge of the opposition box, which leaves us vulnerable to the counter.
With his passing and possession retention, I think Cazorla could easily help control the game from a deeper midfield position, whilst providing support for the ageing Flamini.'
Replace Flamini with Coquelin, and I think the set-up is worth trying.
