To be honest, there are some absolute morons on this forum. Speaking of Bale, I remember when some on here genuinely didn't want him. Reasons were varied. Overrated etc.

"Nani is better" was my favourite reason, though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe Valencia was the more common comparison. Lines like "one trick pony" were used a lot on this board too.

Somebody posted a "Bale vs Valencia" article and some of the responses were laughable looking back.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ah yes. Thanks for jogging my memory. There were Valencia comparisons also. Amazing.

We bought Chris Turner from Sunderland on the back of an unbelievable performance in a cup game against us once if I remember right. You'd think we'd learn.

I was in the 10% who thought Dembele was very average. I can't remember if I contributed in the Bale v Nani debate but given my opinion on Nani I have a feeling I came down on the side of Bale

It's not about ability with Dembele. He has bag loads.

It's his attitude and drive that seems to be his downfall.

Dembele beats out fellaini any day for me. I suspect he would do the same for spurs tbh. Fellaini starting for united is an indictment on how poorly we have been managed for the past few years. So much so, united fans still think fellaini is better than dembele now. Like bad football ptsd.

Remember that skinny Portuguese kid all the players told Fergie to sign, I can't remember his name.

Cantona too, to an extent... Apparently the way our players spoke about him being unplayable focused SAF on getting him.

No one is claiming Fellaini is world class here, but he is performing far better than Dembele at this moment in time. To suggest other is to hold your hand up to not watching any football outside of UTD games.

Is this myth still doing the rounds? People act as though Ronaldo wasn't already on our radar and being closely monitored with the intention of signing him before he destroyed John O'Shea (lol) in a pre-season friendly.

Read Fergies book.

Not sure it is a myth. SAF mentioned it in an interview years ago.

The same things were said about Fellaini when he was winning balls in the air against Carrick in a makeshift defence.

Sign him up they said, when he was signed they turned on him. Football fans eh

Especially you

I was never for Fellaini in the first place

It's funny you say that given that you didn't particularly rate Bale and Modric.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

For what they cost yes, I still do not rate Bale very highly as I believe his game is limited and he is not very intelligent in possession.

At the time we had the Modric debates, you will recall our argument was about getting someone better than him because his goal and assist return was on par with Anderson

But you rate Anderson very highly so what was the issue?

And the goals argument.

I would guess that his goals record is on par with Kroos, Alonso, Pirlo, Xavi and Fabregas (Chelsea version).

Does that mean that you don't want them either?

Our argument was that we should get better than what we had. So signing a player with the same stats as Anderson was silly.

You were the one using stats, remember?

So are you debating the Modric of Spurs (which our debate was about) or the Modric of Madrid which is a brand new debate.

I still do not want him

And if I remember correctly he had the 3rd highest chance created stats in the PL.

You were the one using stats.

Modric is a WORLD CLASS player. End of.

MUDD..... SLM discovered Modric at this little club in north London. He was the only poster to ever mention him, EVER

You used chances created and said he was this chance creator extraordinaire and I said what are the goals and assists?

He was not doing better than Anderson and in the prem in the big games he never turned up.

Those were the arguments. He is not a world class player, he is a very good one. World class, no chance.

I bet the limited amount of money I have I have watched more matches than you have this year especially in the epl. What's more, I have watched more matches in which dembele has featured mostly in the EL. Still the same player as he was in fulham, just not favored by his manager. Pochettino prefers his youth players and I admire him for it. That does not make it obvious to anyone watching that his skill set is not more useful to us than whatever fellaini is meant to be offering. Pace skill and tenacity in midfield. 3 things we lack dearly in midfield and should be the first things we look for in any player we buy in that position

posted on 22/1/15

On Modric, id love to see him in a Utd shirt, brilliant little player, will actually try passes from centre midfield rather than constantly pass back and side to side.

posted on 22/1/15

Herrera and Blind do that already, no need to waste money
