Best of luck to him at West Ham, and to be honest, where they are this season is about his level. Had a top quality season, and a few above average ones, but you can't fault 10 years or so of service, regardless of his limitations.
Hope he does well for them. Shadow of the player he used to be
Very hard to find big game players like him out there.
.................
Tip top wumming.
The guy (unjustly) gets a lot of shitt on here
----------------------------
Very subtle
I thought he was a very good player and it's such a shame he suffered illness at the peak of his career. Whoever takes him is taking a risk but if he gets anywhere near his previous level, he'll be a good signing for many teams.

Fletch was by and large just OK (bar that run he had before the first Barca CL final).
Hope he does well, but not against us.
Always thought he was an underrated player when he was near the top of his game, which feels wrong coming from me. Don't need me to tell you he was fairly unfortunate in a few ways too, must have taken a lot just to keep trying to get back playing, best of luck to him.

I just don't buy this argument you need average like him to start for top sides to be successful. Name me such average players who start for Barca, Real and Bayern for example.

You obviously don't really know much about the history of united if you don't understand why players like Fletcher are so well regarded.

Both keepers at Madrid and Barcelona

One of the main reasons we went 25 odd years without winning the league is because we had too many players like Fletch.

You're deluded if you don't think Fletcher had a decent hand in the 5 titles we won with him in the squad.
They aren't average players at all. Ramos has arguably been the best CB in the world the past year.
Yes he's a lunatic but he is also a very good defender.
Also, Busquets is an absolutely brilliant player.
wish him well, but lets be honest, for a club of Utds stature he should never have made as many appearances as he did.
While Real had regulars like Alonso, Sami Khedira, Ozil ( for Real he was fantastic), Di Maria, Modric,
Barcelona, busquets, Xavi, Mascherano, Iniesta
Bayern, Javi Martínez, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Kroos
we had Fletcher.
like i said, not the worst player, but nowhere near the level we should have been aspiring to.

This. I like the guy but he wouldn't get a look in in a good midfield. Nicky Butt was streets ahead in the same type of role.
Players like Fletcher were very important to our success. Players who work for the team, are willing to sit out games, can come in and perform.
Ferguson was brilliant at rotating the side and able to get performances out of squad players who at other clubs you would expect to bomb.
I think Fletcher will be appreciated more at a lesser club, actually. It's a shrewd signing for West Ham.
lets cut the sentimental bullshít, Fletcher was an average player, possibly good enough to be a squad player, but deffo not a regular.
it goes a long way when in 10 years or so, most would agree he only had one decent season.
could he tackle?? no
could he spray the ball around?? no
could he read the game well?? no
did he have pace?? no
he had decent stamina, but nothing else really to really warrant a major role at the club.

Where did I say he didn't?
Oh that is right Robb, I did not say that.
Have another go.

Maybe a few years back but far less so now. He really isn't the same player he was, his game was all about hustle and bustle, he's lost that now. In games for us recently he has sat deep and tried to operate the Carrick role but simply doesn't have the attributes to do so.

Fair enough.
Don't think he had a major role for us in being a regular. His strength for us much like players like O'Shea, Fortune, P Nev, Blomquist, Johnsen, De Gouw etc was their acceptance in being squad players but also being ready when called upon.
We didn't expect them to win us games single handedly but instead work for the team and do their part.
I think if you move aside from the whole 'ability' side of the discussion for a second -
It's a guy who played for the best club in the country for a decade, winning numerous things in the process. Getting diagnosed with a crippling illness, and still fighting his way back to play at as close to top level as you can get. Fair play to the guy, it would have been easy to just give up. Probably not good enough on the whole (decent as a squad player) but can't really fault him. Not his fault he was constantly selected.
