we aren't far away, just need one or two quality players in the summer. We are improving every game, particularly in defence, and if we can continue to do that rest of the season we may still challenge for 4th.
Rodgers (who unfairly in my view) was panned earlier on in the season for some poor performances and results deserves credit for displaying the imagination and fortitude to change the personal and find a system to suit the players he has.
-------------------------
To be fair, I think he was rightfully criticised. Your performances were poor, especially for a side who had just finished second. The players couldn't seem to play the style properly, which is odd considering last year and the transfers looked appalling (though admittedly, I still haven't seen a lot different there)
However, just as he should be criticised when things are going badly, he deserves credit for the turn around in recent weeks. Liverpool's performance over the two legs was ten times better than when we played you in the league earlier on in the season and you had every chance of going through.
It will be interesting to see how Liverpool finish the season, thankfully most everyone else was awful as well, so top 4 is still possible.

I don't disagree with constructive criticism, but there was some terrible knee jerking comments suggesting he should lose his job. Given what happened last year I thought this was extremely harsh. Expectation levels increased and our form was very frustrating, but wanting the managers head on a stick I felt was very unfair.
I'm sure that if we don't make the top 4 there will be these type of comments again. However, I think he has earned a bit of patience from the fans and more importantly the board.
I think we r one top stiker away frm being competitve with thr big boys.
I'd agree with you there, any calls for the managers head seem to be ill thought out, at least because Rodgers has earned the right to go through a sticky spell without being removed instantly. However, if that were to continue for too long then he can't rely on last year to remain in the job. Patience for the sake of patience can be just as harmful as knee jerk sackings.

Yeah agree with that.
Any news on Sakho? We looked pretty solid until he came off
cant argue with what you have said OP
If i was nit picking i would say we were dissapointing in extra time , we clearly need a goal scorer
Some of Coutinho's and Sterling's play is sensational if they could finish then IMO it could even be called Messie like
BR has been great for us and credit to him for turning round our season ( by that i mean looking like one of the worst teams in the league to now having a serious chance of a top four finsish)
My only gripe with BR was some of his comments after matches, nothing else.
Gerrard who i have had a few pops at is a millions times better when played behind the front two rather than in front of the back four, although i dont think he played that well last night
Hopefully Sakho will be fit for the weekend, and hope the rest of the team can get rested ahead of a big game vs West Ham. I was dissapointed with how we played in extra time as well to be honest, Chelsea just seemed fitter. Can't fault the effort though, unsurprising they were tired really.

My hope is that BR in time comes to realise that he doesn't have to enthusiastically answer every question which comes his way. There are times when I feel he says a little too much, and some of the stuff may bite him on the (a)rse at a later date. It's a minor annoyance though because generally I feel he handles the media pretty well.

This is a good point, the way you played over these 2 legs was to get in our faces and chase us down all over the pitch.
playing like that everyweek, sometimes twice a week is almost impossible at that level. you need a big squad and very fit players. be interesting to see how your next few games go in terms of playing like that for the full 90 mins
Yeah bit surprised he took Moreno off as we needed him to put a few crosses into Lambert
Been really impressed with Can. The pen was a little clumsy but other than that he has been excellent. I wasn't sure about initially the defence was the right place for him but he has excelled. Good on the ball and makes some powerful attacking runs. Like Hendo great energy.
One thing I didn't get was why Johnson came on at LCB when we have Lovren on bench? When Sakho went off we lost control and our shape. Sakho does give you the odd heart attack with his risky passes but positionally he makes us solid. I doubt Ivanovic would have got a free header if he or Lovren were on the pitch.
Doesn't bode well for Lovren if he can't get in front of GJ
Rodgers was probably thinking with GJ it would assist us in an attacking sense but in truth he struggled and Chelsea were quick to put Hazard on the right.
Johnson coming on for Lovren especially at LCB was a surprise. My guess is that he went with experience and the fact that Lovren's confidence looks shot at the moment.
johnson is cack, hope sakhos not out for to long
Johnson was poor but he is performed at a higher standard than Lovren this season (not saying much I know), so deserves to be ahead in the pecking order. Lovren will get a chance soon, up to him whether he takes it or not.
Johnson did absolutely fine when he came on. Certainly passed the ball better than Sakho when he came on but I hope the big man is back for West Ham as defensively he is sound.
Both teams looked knackered in extra time but that is to be expected after a hard christmas period and a very busy January.
The team is playing well enough though and lost to a penalty but losing by the odd goal, when ET was at their place, with this young team is nothing to be ashamed about.
Rodgers deserves full credit and I reallty don't care what he says to the media.

I think we need about 4 first team starters.
I felt during our bad phase that i would want br to stay even if we didnt reach top 4 as long as he could prove he can improve the defence. I think he has been able tp show that he can so far
