I think Poch really likes him.

Dembele has masses of skill & is a strong player too. I remember when we beat United at Old Trafford two years ago, Dembele completely controlled the game & if he can get that back he would be brilliant for us!

He needs the whole team to big him up before each game.

Strikes me as the type of player that needs to be told before every game how good he is and how he needs to take on players in the opposition box.

I thought Dembele was the major difference between the teams.Quality perfromance.

He was good last night and we didn't look as good once he went off - though that is probably more to do with Sheff Utd stepping up a gear

Let's see if he can show some consistency from now until the end of the season. I am not holding my breath

even if not a starter, I have maintained that dembele is an important member of the squad.

Sandy, I don't think he was that good tbh. Certainly not outstanding.

He's a decent player, bit it's blindingly obvious that he could be SO much better.

What is so annoying about him for me isn't the fact he passes sideways it is the fact he can breeze past players but rarely takes them on and pushes forward. I saw him do it once or twice with ease last night and just wish he would do it more often. He has so much attacking potential that he just doesn't use.

Dembele is effective when [played in his best position, at the head of the CM. If he is having to sit and hold then you take away from his game....you dont want him trying to out-muscle and run past players in our half/back third, you want him doing that up the pitch and last night he did exactly that. He has the power and strength to be effective when he drops back in but that is not his game really. Mason is less powerful, more tigerish but is able to play incisive forward passes from a deeper role (to the likes of Dembele). Demeble is less able so when playing deep tends to end up playing it safe and passing sideways a lot. Thats why the greater freedom further up the pitch helps his game

I thought he was excellent last night and cause loads of problems. It was no coincidence Utd had more control of the game & scored after Dembele went off.

Devonshire, when he's been played as a 10, he's looked ponderous imho.

For me, he is a traditional CM. But the frustration is that he is capable of ghosting past people as if they're not there. Once he does that, though, he tends to look for the safe ball rather than being genuinely creative.

To clarify, it's not a criticism of last night's performance, more just a general observation.

Always liked him as a player but AVB seemed to drain him of any will to drive forward......he became too careful. Poch seems to be, as he is with others in the squad, giving him more confidence to play to his strengths. Still not at his best, or consistent enough but a very valuable player to the squad

I am a massive fan of Dembele but i agree that he seems he still has more gears to get through and more to give.

I certainly feel more confident when he is in the starting XI.

PS. Lamela is absolute dog shít. How he still gets picked i just dont know.

Lennon or Townsend.

Lamela did one nice pass to Mason (slightly over hit - but good idea) but the rest of the time just lost possession over and over.

If he didnt cost £30m, nobody would want him anywhere near the squad.

Popularity on a football forum doesn't bother me. I'm not a sheep, never have been.

I think all of us are desperate for Lamela to come good and he will not do that sat on the bench. He has improved a bit but seems clueless when it comes to making a decision - to pass, who to pass to, or continue dribbling - by the time he's made his mind up he's lost it. Shame injury forced him out recently as he was looking better, nows he's gone back a step again (based on last nights game)
