To be precise, midtable is short for "middle of the table" which out of 20 teams would mean 10th.

If you do it mathematically by numenr of teams, then it'd be split equally (there'd need to be 21 teams to be exact).

Top teams = 6th/7th upwards
Midtable = Anything inbetween
Bottom = 14th/15th down



Realistically though, the Europe chasing sides get 60+ points.
The bottom ones struggle for 40pts.
Anything in between is midtable - ie average

Midtable sides for me currently are:
West Ham
Stoke
Newcastle
Swansea
Southampton (although may change after this season)

Well I see that stunning outstanding division one cup side sheffield utd were given a good hiding by Preston making our result against them even more outstanding

To me theres a decent argument that 'mid table' refers to clubs who arent fighting relegation, and who arent fighting for european places.

So thats going to vary from year to year, and indeed week to week in any given season, but typically might be say 8th to 14th.
