Palace Youngsters

How pleasing is it to see a string of promising youngsters rolling off the academy production line?

Cadogan, Williams, Sekajja, Pinney ... the list goes on.

There's Premiership clubs out there who would give their right arm for the academy we've got. All praise to Gary Issottt, and long may it continue.

But let's not make too much noise about it - we don't want clubs sniffing round our youngsters, do we?

Bristol City fan in peace here. Just want to know what you think of Ryan Mcgivern was he any good for you guys and whats his strengths/Weaknesses cheers...

He was really good. I would have liked to have seen him stay but we already have 3 other left backs.

He's good going forward and getting crosses into the box. He seems more of an attacking left back and could probably play as a left winger. His weaknesses are that some players go by him too easily. Overall he seems a good player.

The BBC have extended highlights of the last Palace game and you can see him on there.

You've got a cracking academy and you've produced some class players, but the shame of it is, and the down to earth bunch of you will agree with me and I mean no offence by this, you're a small club and will always struggle to hold onto the talent you produce. But the talent you do produce is up to Premiership standards.

I do agree with your comment because I don't think it was aimed just at Palace and I think that the way football has changed has caused a lot of teams our size to become a "small club". I think realistically the days of a player sticking with a club outside of the Premiership for 10+ years has gone. Personally I like to see Crystal Palace become a sustainable club and if that means selling players to gradually improve then it's something that needs to be done.

I think I've drifted off onto another issue but I always considered Portsmouth a "small club" even though they were in the Premiership for ages and won the FA Cup!
