Who would you rather be in a couple of years, Wigan/Birmingham in the Championship but with recent famous victories or Sunderland/West Ham no recent trophy but playing it out in the top league...
I would lean towards the second as it gives you a better shot at a cup each year ironically whereas you can go all out for the cup fail then get relegated and severely lessen your chances of ever winning the cup again...
Personally i'd take a cup win over survival all day long despite the pain of relegation. It's far easier to get promoted than it ever is to win a cup and once your name is on it, 'aint ever coming off.
I suppose i'm talking about teams getting to the latter stages, without actually participating in a final.

In that case, as exciting as a good cup run is for any club, if you happen to be near the bottom of your respective league then survival trumps it.
Yeh, If one of the teams were to actually win it then i'd say i'd agree with you. So, i suppose it begs the rhetorical phrase "if your not in it you can't win it". Anyway i think your best off out of it.
So, now we know Sunderland, Leicester and Alice can focus entirely on the league. Villa and Albion may gain confidence from their cup runs but ave a greater chance of players getting injured. I'm still not sure who's better off after this weekend.
