I actually agree with segments of this article. I really don't like the way we're playing at the moment, with a particular dislike being the passing. It's absolutely terrible right now. Yesterday we were out-possessed by Crystal Palace. Our passing accuracy was in the low 70's again.
I understand that we're winning games, but it is not being done convincingly at all. The performances against Spurs, and in particular Liverpool were extremely concerning. these are good teams, nothing more, yet we appeared leagues below them. God knows what Bayern, Madrid and Barcelona would do to Arsenal right now.
Possibly the biggest issue is the reduction in intensity. Earlier in the season we pressed really high up the pitch, now we sit deep and don't press even when the opposition enters our half. For a counter attacking style to work, this is crucial. However, I don't think that this style of play is planned. Something is not right, and it needs fixing ASAP.
We're going to finish fourth, maybe even third. Everyone will get their nice bonuses and Kronke will get his Champions League money, the players don't have the desire, belief or motivation to challenge for the title.
Similar thing happening at United IMO.
Fans point to tactics and yes they play a huge part. Personnel also plays a huge part (we're very average in a few key positions) but the biggest thing is player desire and on field leadership - we lack that.

kinda my point, mostly midfield IMO.
This is a sharticle nothing else.
We are getting under more pressure when our midfielders dont turn up. Unfortunately all our midfielders done that at the same time against Spurs. Our striker looked isolated and we couldnt even put any 3m pass together. That was the key of Spurs success. When teams press us high up we need our players at their best. When we dont have that we depend on our defensive minded players to turn up and soak off the pressure.
We had some average games of course but we had also some brilliant and confidence games. I like that we changed our approach a bit.

Imo teams used to let us have the ball, knowing we couldn't do much with it. Now the boot is on the other foot. We know that we can let the opposition have it and keep them out by retaining shape and defending well. The City game proved this.
We have 3 players currently who can kill the opposition - Sanchez, Ozil and Cazorla. Imo none of these are the tippy tappy, pointless possession type players we had in our high possession days. They want to make the killer pass (or run in Sanchez case) and have meaningful attacks.
The only thing that worries me about our recent performances is the final 10 minutes when we're defending a lead. It does feel as though we're inviting an onslaught.
Also Arteta is a key player when it comes to possession. He doesn't pull players back into position like Coquelin does and although I like him a lot, he does a lot of meaningless backwards/sideways passing.
The only thing that worries me about our recent performances is the final 10 minutes when we're defending a lead. It does feel as though we're inviting an onslaught.

100% agree with you Ron. We are not focused for the whole game and let teams back in the game. We fall back into old mistakes that we thought we left behind us. That is worrying indeed.
Good post Ronny.

wasnt the best of games to watch, good thing you guys dont have to be up at 3am to watch these games. Intensity wasnt there vs Palace, might have to do with Monaco midweek also Barca lost at home to Malaga. I really hope it lifts vs Monaco as it will play in their hands. Need to go at them with an intensity not seen in Lique 1, want to kill off the tie at home.

Don't think it has anything to do with that. Barca and Bayern have tons of players who can hurt the opposition. Yet, they keep the ball so well, it's very difficult to press them. And impossible to do so on the front foot. We're easier to press, cos we're sloppier on the ball and play with little intensity, not because the opposition are too frightened of our attacking players.

No, he's not. That's total nonsense. Giroud is the sloppiest outfield player we have in his passing. The myth of Giroud and his link-up play is a huuuge myth.

Giroud plays a lot of little through balls and flicks so just judging it off pass completion doesn't show everything, he gets a lot of assists. His technical ability and all round game is underrated

Of course I'm fun to spend time with. A t'riffic family man, gleaming with charm. Would those be the same Spurs fans that think I'm an anti-Spurs, obsessed, deluded Arsenal fan? The very fact you think being an Arsenal fan should preclude praising a rival team shows your mental maturity.
Not my fault you're clearly not cut out for what an opinion forum entails. You certainly have no opinions, so how could you understand debating opinions? Always wondered what the point of your existence here is. It's clearly way above your head and you're a fish out of water.
I'm sad to know you dislike me and you know enough about me to call me an "odious" person. I'll go cry into my pillow now. You can't win them all.
"Giroud plays a lot of little through balls and flicks so just judging it off pass completion doesn't show everything, he gets a lot of assists. His technical ability and all round game is underrated"
On the contrary, his link-up play is highly overrated. Watch Ibrahimovic or Benzema or Costa or Mandzukic and the likes hold up the ball and bring teammates into play. They average more chances created per game than Giroud, but they are nowhere close to being as sloppy in their passing. The guy's pass completion average is in the low 60's, ffs. The lowest in Arsenal and one of the lowest in the division. The amount of times promising Arsenal attacks break down when the ball gets to Giroud is unbelievable at times. He OCCASIONALLY pulls off a brilliant flick, and people wax lyrical and forget all the needless times he gives. Sometimes, you have to hold it up and make it stick. His obsession with one-touch lay-offs is irritating.
The lack of possession is definitely a result of a tactical switch.
To use yesterday's game as an example, in the first half we had more of the ball and most of the game was played in the midfield or palace thirds of the pitch.
However, at half time and having secured a 2 goal lead we changed tactics and tried to play on the counter attack. This meant sitting deep and giving up possession in order to entice palace forward and leave spaces behind which we could run into. To some extent this worked with a couple of very good opportunities created which we failed to convert.
We were only worried in the last few minutes when we switched to a back 5. We lost any attacking threat which meant Palace could afford to send both fullbacks forward, whilst our CBs looked uncomfortable working together as a group of 3.
