At least get your acronmys right. BPL ffs.
We're not good enough to win the CL, and we don't want to go through all that effort for such little financial reward to win the EL.
So teams want to get in Europe, then go out of Europe as early as possible to increase the chances of getting back into Europe?
are they smuggling something?
The premier league clubs are just pretty bad currently.
OP your right.
Its all about top 4/$ anything else is secondary. I bet not one Chairman would take winning ( lets say the FA cup) over finishing in the top 4.

As a fan, when Spurs are in it I'd like us to do the bare minimum to make it to the quarter-finals (playing fringe players and kids) whilst maintaining a good league position and then take the EL seriously from there. Up until that point I couldn't really care if we get knocked out.

That is fine but you have to stay as a high rated league or you end up with top 3 in champions league like italian league
I remember people said, me included, that if the EL winners got a CL spot it'd be worthwhile.
But the prize money is still garbage. So things haven't changed.

The OP seems confused.. the difference in league placing payout won't be that much, the reason top four is valued is the added CL money..
Makes sense for teams to bomb out of Europa in the hope of getting top four.. Arsenal capitulating in the CL every year is just funny
The real reason is managers like Wenger, Pellegrini andRodgers putting their "philosophy" before actually winning the match.

I know normally we are knocked out by the likes of Barca & Bayern but this year is a low.
On the other hand we could keep getting knocked out by minnow like ur boys do all the time in the Europa.
Our poor showing in Europe is because our league isn't very good.
It's kick and rush football that is exciting to watch but is not technically or tactically competent football.
It's no coincidence that the only English team who do consistently well in Europe now are Chelsea, who play the most tactical football of all the English sides and get called boring by a lot of british football lovers.

How about 2006 - 2009 when we had 3 of the 4 semi finalists in the CL- 3 years running? I'm pretty sure the league was much the same then.
Even though we were so poor against Monaco if Giroud had a better game and put a few away we'd probably be saying we'd done well! Fine margins.
Here's what I don’t get about English teams attitudes to the EL
Spurs and Liverpool are not exactly winning things every two seconds, I cant even remember the last time Spurs won anything.
Both team are not that good really and the reality is the Europa is probably the best chance both have of winning something this year (despite the final Spurs have on Sun).
Spurs have no chance of top four this year and Liverpool face a battle, why not actually try and win the Europa.
If both clubs have CL ambitions then their players need to get used to playing 2 hard games a week, every week.
Trojan21 so Liverpool are finally ahead of Tottenham by 1 point and you work out spurs have no chance of top four but Liverpool face a battle.
There's a lot more to it than this. UEFA are the ones to blame.

The league was the same, we just had better teams at the top of it.
The Prem is still the richest league like it was 5 years ago, the difference is the managers at the top are not doing as good a job as they once were/there predecessors were. They are wasting more money and failing to produce teams that can compete on all fronts.

I mean 2014 was first year since 2004 no british representative in a european final.
