To be honest, Bilate made a strong case for starting the next game when he came on. He was the only player who looked capable of bringing us towards a goal when he came on.
We have lost so much pace since Mackay-Steven and Armstrong left, and playing Ciftci alone up front is never going to work if we don't get him support - I swear for some reason we were playing him as a lone target man in the first half, crazy.
We've not been helped by Anier having a terrible start to life at United. Those misses will not help his confidence.
The play I was most surprised by though was Dixon. Dixon has always impressed me, and I see him as a good quality left back, but on Saturday he was abysmal. He was out of position for their first goal, which caused Fojut to come out to mark two guys which isn't really possible and fair play to Thistle they finished it well but we shouldn't be giving teams these opportunities. Countless times Dillon and Dixon (both playing fullbacks) were giving the ball away, and we couldn't cope with Partick Thistle's (minor) pressing. Any time our team are put under pressure they panic.
I am as ever an optimistic arab though, and I've seen United come into big games after a terrible run of form and really turn it on so let's hope that happens.
We're just psyching them out
cammy, I wish I had your optimism
I said when the two left for Celtic that it was their turn of pace that we were going to miss more than anything else. I look at the guys we've got, and while they're good players on their day none of them have genuine pace in their game, and that wee turn of pace you need to get away over 5-10 yards. Given that Jackie likes to play a counter attacking game then losing that pace has really damaged our entire set up.
I've never liked Dillon at right back by the way. And his passing is horrible.

The problem is that without the pacy guys to provide an out-ball, we have to keep the ball and wait for an opportunity. Unfortunately, our current team are pretty hopeless at keeping possession. We never seem to string a good number of passes together and the ball is treated like a hot potato. It's weird to say, but I think Butcher is currently our best ball-handler. He's about the only one that moves about with the ball at his feet, whilst others are launching it with their second touch.
McNamara's time at United has been typified by the fast break, but if we can no longer do that then we need an alternative. In short, we need another Gomis.
