Wasn't it said they rejected Ronaldinho for the same reason?

Yes I think so. Beckham 'appeared' to be more marketable. Beckham and Madrid raked in the cash while Ronaldinho and Barca raked in the trophies

Yet they have Modric?

I don't think they did reject Dinho for that reason, they had Ronaldo don't forget.

Dinho didn't fit the Galactico profile, however, because he wasn't a high profile name until he went to Barca and if I remember rightly after Madrid made it know they were after Beckham it was only us and Barca in for Ronaldinho.

I'm glad they didn't get him. He was a key part of the Barca revolution. I wonder if the Madrid fans caught on camera giving him a standing ovation have ever lived it down?

I'm so gutted we didn't sign him.

Kenyon facked that transfer up.

The turncoat. I know a few United fans who've never forgiven him for that

all these years later, i still cant quite believe that toe-poke he scored against chelsea, would have loved to have seen him in his pomp in the premier league

I'm one of them.

We did get Ronaldo, so it wasn't the end of the world, but I'm still gutted to this day we never signed him.

I think we'd have put up a much better fight in the league between 04-06 had we got him. Magical player.

I've been tempted for a while to create an article about it. For me it's right up there with the greatest goals I've ever seen. Just over 10 years ago and I can't get over it.

It's the curl round Carvalho. How the feck do you curl a toe-poke? Gods have knowledge that mere mortals do not

Carles Rexach commenting on Real Madrid. Now surely that's a balanced, unbiased opinion worthy of being taken into account.

Ledders, fwiw, If I had been one of the Madrid fans caught on camera giving Dinho a standing ovation, I'd feel very proud of myself and show it to my kids as an example of sporting values. Honouring an opponent is one of the biggest tributes you can pay the sport itself.

If you're bitter, suck lemons is my motto.
