The FA Cup or The CL?

Winning a trophy I think but it's a tough one. CL two years in a row could galvanise this club considerably.

CL for me. I think it'll have a greater long term effect on the club. The more consecutive seasons you can get in the CL, the better we'll get and the easier it'll become to attract the exact players BR wants, as oppose to second or third choices.

The trophies will follow.....

Qualification for the CL is in itself a trophy anyway.

We used to diss Arsenal fans for that mentality and here are some with the same attitude.

It would be great to have a 2nd season in CL but again next season we will struggle to get out of the groups. Our seeding in Europe is poor and we might even struggle to win the 3rd round playoff before the group stages.

In terms of attracting the best players we will again be handicapped with not being able to pay the high wages and not being located in London.

So because Arsenal have that attitude, it stands that every other team must have it also? So you don't think we could use continued qualification in the CL to better effect than winning a single FA Cup?

We're continuously told that the top players won't consider you unless you're proven in the CL, season after season. Do you think we'll be able to attract who we really want/need on the basis of being the FA Cup holders?

It's actually people like yourself that are showing a lack of long term thinking. I'm looking at the bigger picture.

4th place is a trophy.

I think there is also a difference in that if we'd been in the CL for nine years without a trophy I'd say FA cup for sure.

Term:
Even if we were in the CL for 5 years on the bounce we would not be able to compete with teams like Barca, Real, Bayern, Paris, Chelsea, City, United and Arsenal for the top players. We don't pay the top wages and Liverpool city is not desirable as the above teams. That myth has been debunked

The type of player again we will be signing will be the Markovic and Can's who are investments rather than proven top quality. The only time we will be able to flag the "we are in the CL for 4-5 years" will be when buying English players.

Win FA Cup this year and try again next season to get a CL spot with hopefully a better start.

Exactly. I'm surprised that some people are dismissing the importance of qualifying for the CL, especially over the next few years. By qualifying over several successive seasons we can really establish a foundation that we can build on for years to come.

The question posed by the op is purely hypothetical anyway. The reality is that there's no reason we can't get both.

I was reading an article yesterday that suggested you talked complete nonsense. I thought it was a bit harsh at the time, but now I tend to agree with that assertion!!

Your attitude is a disgrace, completely defeatist. You sound more like a Stoke or Swansea fan. Hoping for a cup run, and a decent finish in the league. Awful

It is more important that players get used to winning finals and especially one that would include Arsenal. That winning mentality puts players in greater strength than being happy to finish 4th.
