i somehow doubt that the OP would have started this thread if india had won the series this summer

Lasith Malinga is one of the best death bowlers i have ever seen. Last time i checked he was still playing cricket. If he is not threatening according to you then i give up.

Envious the op is??

It's just a cycle we've seen before. When the WI were all conquering fast bowling became the vogue, then batting and scoring pots of runs became the priority.
Currently Australia are giving a new generation of fast bowlers a chance and England have them coming out of our ears.
The fact that India and SL still are batsman crazy is due to their obsession with one day cricket.
However it's clear this OP is just sour grapes from a disappointed India fan.

We are looking forward to some excellent tours against Sri Lanka , Pakistan and South Africa and personally, cricket has never been in a better state. Of course this OP is feeling a bit down in the dumps at the moment, his team have just been taking apart at the seams, and dare I say it, rather humiliated.

Couple that with the fact that he does not appear to have said anything remotely intelligent on here, or even have the first clue about how to predict, foresee or even have the faintest idea about anything associated with the game of Test Match cricket then it's all going to end up sounding like Sour Grapes.

We waited patiently for years, and now our time has come. Good luck to the rest though Remember though, come to England under prepared, overweight and with 1 decent bowler ( who breaks down) and you will get marmalised. How many so called top teams (Australia at their place, India at ours) is it going to take before people begin to realize that.
No weaknesses - Allrounders and plenty of them, wicket keepers that can bat, batsmen making double and almost treble centuries, and all this is happening at the same time. It's our time.

Summary - Cricket has never been in a better state, now man up and give us a fight

Dont put Laxman in the same bracket as Sachin,Dravid,Punter and Kallis. Those 4 are All Time Greats.
Laxman is a good batsman nothing more than that.To say that the current crop of young batsmen are incomparable to him is a joke. There are quite a few batsmen atm who are younger and better than him.Cook,KP,Bell,Smith,Amla,De Villiers and Sangakkara spring to mind.

Its funny how a white wash can affect peoples minds...

BWAH HA HA HA HA !

posted on 27/8/11

The only reason why you think cricket is dying is because your team were just whitewashed, the same thing happened to England in 1998 when the players were booed of the pitch.

OP has a point though. It would have been noteworthy achievement had they achieved this run of success when the likes of Donaldo , Akram , Ambrose , Warne and Mcgrath with-the batsman at their primes like Lara Sach Ricky. Now all are in a twilight phase.

England may well be fortunate to presiding over a cold war era in cricket where the ideologies of t20 and tests are sniping at each other.

It was a delicious 4:0 whitewash victory. Lets hope for many more years of low level, low class opposition whilst we travel around hammering everybody , as we have done already during the last 2 years
Our team is primed and ready, is yours?
It's our time.

The quality of test cricket at the moment is not great. It hasn't been since Australia lost its dominance.

I think the quality is excellent. We are the new Australia you see. Was the quality better when they were whitewashing us ? Was the quality better when the West Indies were whitewashing us?

England have a superb team right now, playing well in all aspects, and are making others look NOT great. Why? Because we are great.

The Indian fans were absolutely convinced they would beat us here, as were the Australian fans down under. Now they can all sit back and realise, with the benefit of hindsight that they had no chance. Long live the King that is the England Test Match cricket team

Malinga does not play test cricket anymore.

Test cricket is not all about super fast bowling. If it was McGrath would not be seen as a great.

The OP does not mention Test Cricket anywhere in his article.

He says that England have a very settled attack. That would suggest Test cricket?

'Cricket is dying' is the name of the article. And in it, the words test cricket are not there.

posted on 27/8/11

The OP is an India fan, I'm sure that he didn't count ODI's as that would diminish their WC victory.
In his despair after his team's loss to England he clearly means test cricket.

cricket debate on this site is dying

Ofcourse I am talking about tests. I for one dont like odis and t20s.... it is entertaining but that is where it ends for me. Topdawg and Maksi.... This article is no where degrading what England has done and its neither because India lost 4-0. I haven't said England are poor. They will remain no.1 even after this article but the fact that other countries bowling attack is getting crapper is no rocket science. Look at how many good bowlers there were.... wasim akram, waqar younis, anil kumble, shane warne, mcgrath, shoib akhtar, saqlain mustaq, andrew flintoff, shaun pollock, shane bond, vaas, murlidharan, bret lee...... the bowling list is endless. Now if you look at the bowling, you will barely be able to name 5 bowlers that are as devasting as these. Some of the matches played in this period are so famous that whenever there is a talk about a match or 2 they will mention this.

Those attacks where rubbish before the Eng and India test series and i doubt you made this article and point then.

I hate myself right now, but virudagreat is kinda right. Apart from England and possibly SA every team in test cricket is now appalling. I don't really think England are that good, everyone else is just terrible. It was embarrassing that India were ranked number 1, their team was pathetic. Australia has had a revolving door spinner policy and SA can't stop choking. SL just lost their only good test bowler, and the other one (Vaas) retired a few years ago. Pakistan are completely shambolic compared to 10 years ago. The West Indies too are a shadow of their former selves, at least they used to have Lara and Walsh to give them some respectability. Don't get me started about Zimbabwe or New Zealand. Fact is England are the best team about now, but I doubt they are better than the Aussies circa 2006.
