I though Mesut had a very good game for us personally i know people like to scapegoat him.
Sure he gave the ball away but most the time it was the result of a failed throughball more then anything.
My biggest issue with last night was in the 5 added mins no one but Ozil wanted the ball. It was all no you have it, No you have it etc. The amount of times Ramsey/Bellerin could of put the ball in the box but passed out again was ridiculous.
I dont like to sound patronizing but only idiots with limited football knowledge cant see what Ozil does on the pitch. They probably prefer dross like Oscar because he runs a lot and takes shots.
Ozil was ok last night, nothing more.
I kinda agree with Wumpatrol. But who am I to patronise people who watch at least as much football as I do.

True that....I think Özil played well yesterday.
People who couldnt see what Santi was doing really need to watch this game again....
Santi will always look better than Ozil because he can dribble past players with ease. People dont notice the perfect passes from Ozil as the dont standout compared to a player taking on a couple of players or keeping the ball in a sticky situation.
Though Ozil has a great game but should have scored that chance which when a yard wide.
I'd give him a 7.5/8 out of 10 yesterday.

I find it intriguing how avearge/ok performances from Ozil invoke so much debate from both sides. Truth is he was ok last night, but didn't do enough and this is the case in most of his games. Why people need to slate him for being poor or overhype his performance as a match winning one is beyond me
Imagine the meltdown this place would have if Ozil put in a REAL match winners performance for us! ala Sanchez vs Sunderland/Burnley/Dortmund(h)!

Exactly the kind of person I am talking about.
thought he did well but he isnt a player thats gonna take the game on & score a brace/hatrick to win for us thats what we need. Great passer but stop that & what does he offer??? Santi the less said about him the better must be the only CL player to not score in 4 campaigns. 32 games no goals brilliant just the quality you need. Still cant believe Ramsey was on the bench instead of Santi.
Can't be bothered with another Ozil debate, what I would like to know is does anyone genuinely think him and Cazorla work in the same team, vs anyone half decent?
It's been a while since we have seen those Ozil flop articles. It helps when players like Oscar and Willian play like sick badgers
The OP has a point about how personalities mask the truth about the real performances of players. Take for example Coutinho, he has been decent, actually liverpools best player at the moment but because he cost less than 10 million he will get less stick when liverpool lose. Same thing with Sterling, hasn't looked great at all this season, all I see is him throwing himself to the ground but some idiot last night said he is better than Nasri
It's a good thing Sanchez has hit the ground running otherwise we would have two expensively bought players being abused on Tv every week.

Everyone has a role to play in a team. If for you a player offers nothing unless they score, you are lost!

we needed goals not someone that cant score in europe, what does he offer in europe he is a mf and a talented attacking 1 at that. Its not like im asking Kossie to be our top scorer.
pat nevin was just hating as he's a ch av ski sc umbag with no rational thought, when it comes to Arsenal players
ozil had a good game yesterday and was at the centre of everything...he worked his socks off and made some key passes. ozil has impressed me recently with his effort ,workrate and guile.
my only gripe is the half time shirt swapping...he won't be the first or the last
If anyone should be slated for last night it is Sanchez. We dominated possesion and had the ball in very dangerous territory(funny enough thanks to the work of Santi and Ozil) and he fecked up every time by losing the ball cheaply. His main task in the team is to get goals and he bottled it yet people want to lay the blame on Welbeck and Ozil who did their jobs!

Xavi is regarded as the greatest CL midfielder and you know what? He rarely scored when Barca needed goals. You also think he offered nothing?

different type of players, Xavi isnt required to score however Santi is as he is more offensive minded. He should be doing a lot better personally i would have played Ramsey instead of him more of a goal threat.
Sanchez well his is just stuffed should have given him a breather i know he wants to play every game but its his 1st season in England & Wenger should have decided that.
Naturally maybe but the role he plays now, he isnt expected to score goals. In fact hes playing the same role Xavi did.
Ozil's goal return isn't a problem. Hasn't ever been prolific, and never will be. No issue with that.
Cazorla was good last night, our best player perhaps. Özil stepped up when the pressure was mounting and was creating. But his crossing was poor as was everyone else's.
I'd probably see Ozil as a Mix between Xavi and Iniesta.
In my last comment, I was talking about Santi's current role, not Ozil.
