I actually quite like Savage as both pundit and player. I remember him mocking the abusive chants he was getting from the East stand at a game back in the 90s and got a few thousand of us wound right up. Does the same to some supporters as a pundit it seems as well

I think in general, defenders are much more intelligent being than strikers due to having to pick up sub-traits such as their ability to get their opinion across in game. Also their tactical understanding must be good for them to work as a solid back line. That's why Neville/Carragher are seen as the 2 starpins of modern punditry whereas people like Henry, Savage, Owen...
