Sterling Situation

I think he would get a lot of game time at Man City.

Navas isn't great, Nasri is up and down, Silva has his fair share of injury, Milner is probably leaving.

If he goes anywhere then they are the most likely IMO.

It's also a question of how much he will be worth paying, it's a five year deal, so at 23-25 will Raheem be worth paying 150k a week?

Based on his current development I would argue he will be worth that much in two to three years.

It may be to do with CL football as well, Raheem may struggle to leave to a CL club whilst in the middle of a contract as Liverpool will just refuse offers like they did with Arsenal and Suarez.

Unless someone pays what Liverpool ask he will be stuck there, and a five year contract would take him through a good chunk of his career.

Was there any evidence that he rejected any offer. I thought that they said talks were on hold until summer. I thought it was just the red top rags stating he rejected it as they don't have Suarez to talk about anymore?

I'm not worried about him professing undying love for the club and taking less wages as a result. The main problem I have is he's just not been good enough to earn the reported wages he's claiming.

His performance has also dipped since this story blew up and I get the impression he had decided to leave if a decent offer comes along.

If he wants that he should be shown the door.

He can easily put clauses in his contract if say we are out of CL for 2 years then we have to listen to offers of X amount. The CL argument is irrelevant.

Sterling believes he is Liverpool best and most marketable player and with the increase of TV money he should get the amount he desired.

I'm more with the club. He is not currently worth what he is asking. Still has a lot to improve on which also includes stamina to last a season without needing a rest. If he meets targets year on then we increase it year by year.

Wasn't it something like that that happened with Suarez though....

I doubt Sterling will ever get to Suarez level. We did a deal with Suarez to shut up and he can have Spain the year later.

I mean in terms of him having a clause and you still not letting him go, for that reason, he could be hesitant to sign because he wants CL football.

It's a valid point, from what I read, and what John Henry came out and said, the club did have a clause in Suarez's contract and then just ignored it.

They got away with it with Suarez, but I can see why that would make other players a bit more wary in their dealings with the club.

If Suarez really wanted to leave then follow Arsenal he would of. The truth is he didn't fancy Arsenal and we were able to persuade him and give us one more season before Spain come calling. Player power would have forced that move to Arsenal if he really wanted it.

Yep, I imagine from Suarez's point of view that caluse was designed to allow him to move to a big club without Liverpool pricing him out of a transfer, rather than to guarantee him a move to Arsenal.

Either way though I was a bit surprised when Henry came out and admitted it, it certainly won't encourage other players in their contract talks with the club.

Suárez claims the club told him they would let him depart if they failed to qualify for the Champions League this season and that a clause in his contract allows him to leave should someone make a bid of more than £40m. He says he has the backing of the Professional Footballers' Association and that he his prepared to take the issue to the Premier League to force his exit and move to the Emirates before the transfer window closes on 2 September.

He certainly wanted the move, you might have been able to do a mixture of cajoling him and just plain playing hardball to put a stop to it...

But that is what might discourage Sterling if he wants CL football, whats to stop you playing hardball with him as well?

He might not have the talent levels of a Suarez either, and given how much English clubs charge it might mean Bayern, Barca and Real aren't interested...

Rich CL clubs then that just leaves the English clubs and PSG.

You feel you are too good to sell to Arsenal.

City and Chelsea you would well overprice a player for.

Us you wouldn't sell to.

Which would just leave PSG who themselves may be able to find a similarly talented player much cheaper.

If he signs a new contract and doesn't reach the very very highest levels he could potentially find himself stuck at a club without CL for a good portion of his career.

I've never rated him as much as others. Think he lacks the technical ability to be truly world class.
He is very effective when used correctly though - my only issue is I only think that's when he is played through the middle where he can go either left or right. I think he's incredibly average on the wing. You don't pay £150k a week to somebody like that, in my opinion.

I read the article this morning. Very good journalism giving an in-depth and fair opinion that few can fault. If he's motivated purely by money, it's time to make a killing. Pellogrini quoted £100M, I doubt if that is anywhere near the final figure. As the journalist says he's good, but not that good. Either way, he's put the negotiations on hold, presumably to see if we get CL so there no pain sell in the immediate horizon.

No panic sell that should read.

I don't think his performance dipped at all. It was quite some time later when some might say his form dipped. I don't think it dipped at all, simply he was moved from the striking position he was doing well in and spent a lot of time playing a more defensive position on the right, where he's less likely to be as explosive as he was. He still did a very good job there but people have to understand the position and job given, he isn't going to be running at players through the centre and scoring many goals from that position.

I wouldnt go too hard on the lad he is playing the game and is entitled to have an opinion on his value. Football is currently chowing down on itself and likes what it tastes.

Look..saf came out a few year ago and stated tht agents are ruining the game.He wished he could run them out of the game...unfortunatley we continue to this day with the agent kabal deciding where players will go. Once you have an agent like say mendes in your clubs interests then your in the gang. PSG Man utd Man city and real madrid have all cashed in on the fact that u need top agent as opposed to top scouts or top players. Remember united bought bebe...well this was to apease a certain agent because the alternative was to maybe miss out on top players later down the line.

What a mess...the fans have got no heroes now.
