Ivan Drago was the one who kicked it all off
Seen an article a while back (can't find it now) stating that more american athletes are turning to other sports (like football/basketball) than take the hard road to the top of boxing.
No idea why we're seeing a rise in athletes from eastern Europe but it can only be a good thing imo

Very True
Well the 200 million that Floyd and Manny will earn from this fight should attract a big percentage of young Americans into considering a career in boxing.

Lame Excuse
Maybe the Europe would dominate from lightweight to light-heavy if football wasn't so popular over here.
Can't believe the mugs that buy that excuse.
Did you read the article D4, it's not an excuse it's a contributing factor
If you don't want to at least look at any answers, why ask the question.
Tired old excuse
That doesn't cut it for me.
So why do you think it's taken a downturn in America then, any chump can say 'I don't agree with it' without coming up for a reason why.
So 2 questions for you
1. Why are we seeing a drop in talent with American boxers?
2. What do you attribute to the rise of Eastern European boxers?
(Am quite happy to debate this without it turning into a bunch of childish name calling)
Why do you sneer at everyone....
Can't you debate properly.....
Yep the Eastern Europeans have two good fighters.....and old man Wlad...
How many divisions and champs are there again ??
American pop culture. Lot of fat overweight Americans today. Boxers from America came from poverty and ghettos and look to boxing as a way out. They destroyed there amateur system, there showing in recent Olympics have been abysmal.
A great amateur system, the fall of the communism and more of them turning pro. Poverty, a more active and fitter population on the whole.
We are all fat and over weight.......in the USA..
Like I said...........Two decent Europeans who haven't beaten anybody.... a guy that lost to Salido and won a bum world title against a stiff.....and workmanlike Wlad....
As an American I'm worried stiff !!
Some good points there, would definitely be worth looking into the downturn of their amateur system but is it the talent turning away from boxing or the facilities not being there to take advantage of it.
As for the football thing, it's no secret that my 2 currently train to box (along with a bunch of other sports) but if they had the opportunity to either play football or box then i'd try to get them to football, the money looks better over the long term and the chance of injury is much less (speaking as a parent.)

These things go in cycles......
Poor time for talent = Europeans doing better...
13 titles from featherweight to Heavyweight.
Not bad going.
18 weight classes x 4 belts.................= 72...........
Plus you have other belts to add in....
13.............and they are taking over...

feather to heavywegiht.
East beats West.
I know you hate Americans...
I'll beg to differ with you on whether EE's are taking over.....and take my leave on this thread before you start chucking smileys and abusing me..
That's 55 belts (not including interim)????
Was Ward America's last boxing Gold medallist?
I think they've always been immensely talented, more of them are turning pro now so they're making more noise. At amateur level they dominate along with the Cubans

Don't get like that.
There is an obvious shift in power.
And the like of GGG and Kovalev is only the beginning.
