ArabTrust Statement: DUFC in Crisis

I think anyone who is getting excited about United going bust or anything like that should cool their jets. That isn't what this is about.

I think the issue is that Thompson wants out. This has been simmering since he started looking at getting involved with the Australian club and reached the boil with the sales in January.

The concern is that he's went from gradually trying to reduce the debt while remaining competitive to simply slashing the debt with only short term concerns in mind. This might very well help him get full value for his shares but will limit our on field ambitions.

He may well have done good things with the club and I don't deny that we were in serious trouble before the Thompson family turned up, but he's ruining his legacy, not least because he's simply lied to the support about the levels of debt we had. That's inexcusable. And it does appear he's now more interested in lining his own pockets during his exit strategy, and despite what he's put in - which again he has exaggerated- he is not entitled to do that.

I do want to know where the money has gone though. Jackie undoubtedly receives a cut of every transfer - Houston did too - but surely not that much.

No one would suggest that for one minute, what it does smack of is "hand in the cookie jar" and of course smoke and mirrors, throw is some very unprofessional behaviour and Spence and thommos holier than thou approach looks pretty laughable

What's it got to do with Jim Spence?

We tried to warn you about him, you did not listen

You deserve each other

up until the last 6-12 months he's been a good chairman. Sadly his desire to get out is spoiling his legacy and it's also making people ask questions.

It certainly does explain why we got GMS and Armstrong for under £2 million.

Even now I still can't believe we got both of them for that price

I was saying we should stump up at the £3 million to get Armstrong as well

Sorry Ivan

Exactly Laudrup, especially Ivan, he's the worst

We told ivan he was a glib and shamless liar, he chose to ignore that advice, I take no satisfaction in saying We told you so

NNH - the term "asset-stripping" has been thrown around among sections of the United support.

I don't see how wanting a exit strategy makes you sell your best players for peanuts to your league rivals, it makes no sense

I do get the mckay Steven one , he was goins to Celtic any way for nothing, so take money for him but the Armstrong one is puzzling

Laudrup, I assume he'd get more money per share for a debt free club and those sales pushed us closer towards that.

As will whatever we get for Ciftci in the summer when he's inevitably sold.

Ivan, this still has a bit of muddied water about it all, THomson should release another statement post haste to at least try and clear this up for the fans

To be fair I have always thought Thomson did a good job for Utd, chairmen are meant to stick up for their club under any circumstances and he did, he upset fans form a lot of clubs, I would have expected that if I was a Utd fan

The "debt" if any, is manageablebut who are the unamed folk receiving this cash, agents?

After the Celtic games my concern was whether Jackie would still be there and if so what our chances were of staying in the top 6.
It now appears that our problems run deeper.
If we've taken in £8m and still in this predicament you have have to question what's going on.

What did he get for Armstrong, was it £250k or something mental like that? Surely hock him around england in the summer would clear the d bt quicker

I think if jackie left he would be doing you a huge favour, the recent games against celtic proved how inept he is

We got £2m for Armstrong and GMS. So basically £1.75m for Armstrong.

We were told we wouldn't sell for less than £2.5m.

Ivan, I presume you will expect some form of statement from the club today?

It's not the type of news you want hanging over you before a couple of extremely crucial games.

On the park, it's not impossible to see United slipping into 6th or even 7th place over the next 2 weeks really?
