If you're going to make 'clever' deals with trigger clauses, you should honour them, and respect the player for delivering their end of the bargain. Not try ad worm your way out like a sneaky f'ing weasel.

I questioned how effective these bonuses would be last year:

Completely agree with your article.

Just like I said when BM went, it;s the way things are being done that is so wrong, and not just wrong but costly.

The people treated this way end up seeking compensation, lawyers are involved and this costs the club.

Why does this happen?

Because MC cannot bear anyone else to take his limelight.

Since he has been officially out of the picture the team has performed far better than with him around and he doesn't like other people being the stars of the show.

Even the journalist closest to him, Simon Austin, says this about the decisions:

Simon Austin
@sport_simon
@Silverman1993 @PhilHayYEP @TheSquareBall although, let's be honest - we know where the decision ultimately came from

You have to be extremely naive to think that Umbers or Salerno are acting autonomously, especially when the Board of Directors has Cellino's 2 sons on.

I still think, this is the first step of TOMA, I think the game tomorrow is gonna be redfearn's last for us, & I think this TOMA will be sooner than people expect.....i can't think of any reason why the club would want rid of Thompson unless he has done something which is gross misconduct...just makes me think that whoever is behind this TOMA has their own agenda, & there will be loads more changes......just hope it's not the cockroach & his mates behind it...

None of this makes any sense. Why would ANY owner, not just Cellino (and I don't doubt he's involved), upset the apple cart at this point in time.
There WAS a real feel good factor around the club and I was looking forward to a Summer of positive recruitment to embelish the squad we have. I anticipated a real boost to season ticket sales and an expectation not disimilar to Wilko's first pre-season. Looks like it's all going to rat $hit with yet another exodus of our best players. I'm not sure the fans will keep turning up to be made mugs of and gates could seriously suffer next season. Very sad!

Excellent post

The two biggest assets the club has are the fanbase and the academy.

Events and actions like the ones you have described damage both of these assets. Not only will our current promising young players be evaluating their future at the club, but parents of other talented kids will likely steer them away from us at the moment.

Players, agents and coaches talk. Any so called prospective quality additions that we think we need to help form a promotion push next season will likely steer clear of us.Especially given the wacky contracts and bonuses that we are offering but not honouring. That is assuming of course that there is any intention to buy such players.

The Antenucci situation speaks volumes for the priorities of the ownership of the club.

Also quite alarming how any situations involving committing to money over the next few years (Antenucci contract clause, Redfearn, Byram, Cook's contracts etc) are not being agreed.

Eddie, because cellinos ego makes him hate anyone else being seen to be successful.

Jonty,
I've never been naive enough to totally buy into S(C)ellinos rhetoric. Actions speak far louder than words. But, I did think that here was a real opportunity to take the club forward. Sadly, short term gain (Bates style) appears to be the order of the day.

Eddie there was, still is. I've always said that Cellino has massive potential at Leeds, any owner has but Cellino's track record showed us all what he was going to be like.

Leopards just don't change their spots I'm afraid.
