All this stuff doesn’t bother me any where near as much as it does some people. I couldn’t care much about his personality as long as he’s successful with us - the ultimate measure is our results.
I think journalists will absolutely love all this. Riling Nigel up may give them a story, or extra publicity, that will sell whatever media they’re trying to promote. Personally I wish that Nige was intelligent enough to see that (as I know he is) and just move on with a “no comment” or “I’d rather not answer that question”. The current approach only makes one person look “stupid” and that’s himself.
"Nigel Pearson" is an anagram of "Genial Person".
Pearson has admitted he has this mischievous side to him, surprised people still fall for it and take it all so seriously.
I've never been overly bothered by his persona or his refusal to speak to RL etc. To be honest as well as having a mischievous side he also admitted he doesn't like aspects about himself.
I dont think he was doing anything clever or creating a distraction. I think its clear from the video that he once again let his emotions get the better of him. Thats human and its happened a number of times.
He doesnt have a great media persona, he doesnt handle challenging questions particularly well and he is a bit of a git. But is it worth all of this fuss from other fans? Nope.....
Quite like him and he speaks his mind. How is it even bizarre what he said? The journalist knew he was pushing his buttons and he had a go at him, nothing serious at all.
Could do far worse than Pearson
The thing I don't get about this interview, is first Pearson call the journalist an Ostrich because he has his head in the sand.
Then he asks the journalist if his neck is flexible enough to get it in the sand.
He then proceeds to tell the journalist that he isn't flexible enough to get his head in the sand, but he himself is.
So effectively, Pearson has started off telling the journalist he is an ostrich, implying he is ignorant and stupid, but somehow managed to turn it round to saying he himself is an ostrich and therefore ignorant and stupid.
This is not an isolated instance of the erratic behaviour of Pearson who bears all the symptoms of a manager not coping with the pressure and out of his depth.
It is one of a chain of embarrassing incidents and behaviour which has already seen him guilty of a disrepute charge and a stream of press and public criticism of his boorish behaviour.
The issue here is that he is representing the club at these occurences and it is the club which will suffer by reputation. Does anyone really think that commercial sponsors-actual and potential- want to be associated with a club or brand represented by his conduct.
For this reason I encompass the owners in criticism- it is now time for them to take whatever action is necessary to correct this unacceptable conduct.
This latest incident shows not only his frequent inability to conduct a civilised press conference without resorting to abuse but to denigrate the questioner and his physical attributes which could be designated as bullying of an unacceptable level.
Pearson seems to have developed a tactic of trying to defray severe criticism that he has received himself –as an attack on his players.
This is nonsense - The press have constantly praised the attitude and skill of the team and this has been the saving factor behind this disappointing season. The same cannot be said for him and his behaviour
It may serve his purpose to engender this siege mentality and defray attention from the real issue –which is the prevalence of bad publicity for him – which impinges on the club and its standing.
This may be seen as another instance of a personal based attack – this is not so – Pearson has received praise from me when due for his decisions where I believe the team and club prosper- but I am not prepared to sit back and watch the club reputation suffer – and it is my view that even the his strongest supporters should not seek to keep making excuses for what is unacceptable.
Maybe you should write a strong letter of complaint.
I don't think it is embarrassing at all, the media ask stupid questions and behave like kids at times. I love it when they get some back be that from Pearson, Fergie, Jose, Wenger any of them.
True blue My understanding is that the club have already interceded on this issue
This is the first time I can remember an out-and-out apology from him so maybe the club have had enough of it.
It seemed obvious that he'd been told to apologise, not really natural was it.
Oh well , JG can put the quill and ink pot away for a little while longer.
I think the apology was genuine even if the club insisted on it. He knows he's overstepped the mark on this occasion and it's clear that rather than some kind of mischievous guy who winds the press up, he's actually a very emotional bloke who doesn't cope with pressure.
While I don't really care too much about what he said, it didn't make an ounce of sense (particularly the ostrich bit) and just came across as a bizarre rant rather than anything measured.
He's too sensitive to deal with this much media scrutiny and could probably benefit from someone else taking some of the questions
The problem is that this is a distraction also from the task in hand- players don't like issues of this nature -with internal meetings going on and cameras at Belvoir for arranged remedial interviews.
The club have been trying to remedy bad press publicity with arranged interviews with selected journalists - like the Guardian recently. In Rudkin they have one of the most publicity savvy people around - he has used it successfully to promote Academy for years.
However Pearson still acted in the same loose cannon way yesterday as previously and the club has to bring it under control.

Well done that man - I could have written his script- now hopefully the club will lay down a few ground rules for Pearson - and if he doesn't like them - ..............
JohnG call it just right, for me. The man is making a laughing stock of us. My friends are asking me, quite seriously, if he is wholly sane. Then they laugh some more.
Does anyone Believe me now when i call him a bully he behaved like some head master belittling a 11 year old school boy.
I don't believe he's a bully no nev.
I surveyed my football team I play with in manchester last night and of the 11:
6 loved it and supported Pearson
3 thought he'd gone mad and just found it weird
2 thought he was a prize idiot
Make of that what you will.
Listened to Paddy's piece on 5live he gave nigel back what he so like to give out for once Nigel sound like a little boy.
Pearson the idiot for causing all this distraction from the main issue of staying up and football.
He had better keep us up or he will be shown the door
Or a great way to maintain the "us against them" mentality to motivate the players.
You can look at it whichever way you want nev, but if we're still in the prem after the last game it's worked, if we're not it's backfired.
If there is any good to come out of yet another sorry affair concerning Pearson and his behaviour -it is that he now understands he has reached tolerance limits .
The issue that raised this latest episode is the press questioning his excuse about criticism of his players as his motive for a chapter of rants and poor behaviour.
The players have not been the subject of press criticism but have been supported and applauded for their attitudes and abilities. He on the other hand has rightly been the target of numerous criticisms for off pitch comments and behaviour and seems to want to divert attention from this by including the players as targets.
The press are aware of this and the young man targeted as Pearsons latest victim only asked for instances of player criticism......... a request repeated in this excellent response from the reporter yesterday-
This club has an excellent reputation and the owners are adding to this by their conduct in both club and local community affairs.
It has to be protected at all costs
Now back to matter in hand... which will not be assisted by this latest unfortunate chapter-
As Paddy Murphy said theres not a midland journo who does not want leicester city to stay up but Nigel can't take any criticism and bullies those who he thinks are.
Mersey I think we need to stop pretending NP is creating an us against them mentality or that last night was intentional in that respect. He was frustrated and he lost it. You can tell it wasn't a calculated tactic to protect his players because he made no sense at all
He admitted that he reacted because the team lost and he didn't like it. That's it.

Another Pearson PR disaster.
