The SNP will not keep Labour honest. SNP are unashamedly Scotland centric, nothing else matters. What they really don't want to happen though is to win 59 seats in Scotland only to have the Conservatives change the law to stop them voting on issues affecting England, Wales and Northern Ireland. That would basically cut the SNP off at their knees, the SNP would be forced to make tough decisions on Scottish taxes / spending plans without any chance of a bail out if they have gotten their sums wrong (like oil prices going down). I’m going to vote Conservative this time if only to make sure laws are passed that prevent the far left SNP from getting a strangle hold on the rest of the union.
Even multi-millionaire ex-Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair would wince at the thought of that. I have to say I have a sort of respect for red Ed's stance about doing deals but in my heart I know he would park that in the nearest cul-de-sac the moment the count had been completed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed SB&Ss!
Interesting to see Ed being so resolute about 'no deals with the SNP'. It is clearly because he can see people not voting red not because of him but because of the SNP, so he has distanced himself totally from them......like you say, we'll see what he does if a Lab/SNP coalition could form a majority....how power hungry is he?

Far left? The SNP are at worst centre left. Look at their record in the Scottish Parliament ffs.
Just because they're to the left of Labour doesn't make them far left. It just shows how central/to the right Labour have become that anyone thinks that.
As for England having to "pay alimony for years" to the Scots if and when we do finally get independence, I think you'll find Scotland will be just fine on our own. We are net contributors to the Union after all, and have been for the best part of 30 years.
And to the person who said that the Labour vote will disintegrate if Scotland were to leave....mate, it's disintegrating now. We're not going to be returning many Labour members this time round.
And if you're wondering why, I'll quote Jimmy Reid.
I never left the Labour Party, the Labour Party left me.

This is probably worth a read for those who think they understand the SNP.
The SNP that care so much about the UK they don't want to be a part of it? Get them in power ASAP!
What freaks me out is that the SNP could capture 59 seats in Parliament with just 4% of the national vote. First time in the dozen or so elections in my lifetime I've ever had to think about it in those terms!

Russia ? No chance. China? Don't make me laugh Cuba? No way Jose..

As an expert on spouting bollox it is difficult to argue with you. Sadly, try visiting one of the socialist countries you so admire. I pity the millions of uplifted 'socialists' that barely have enough food to live let alone thrive. Most of the success they have had is from exporting their wares to capitalist countries but its easy to ignore that. You left out North Vietnam and Cuba. They must be your idea of heaven.

Having more people unemployed than there were under the last Labour Government is not something I would be crowing about.
The banks aided by Conservatives who thought under Thatcher and Major it was a good thing to let them run riot, fecked up this country, and we are still bailing the keents out, whilst they are are still trousering bonuses.
The Tories have no more idea how to control the eonomy than Labour, they just bullshiite about it more, in fact they have borrowed more in their five years in power than any other previous Labour government.
Hello Chicken the debt is going up not down.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry Sandy but you really don't know what you're talking about here.
It was Tony Blair and Gordon Brown who deregulated the banks which put millions of home owners in negative equity, the rest is history and we're still paying for that.
I wasn't a Thatcher supporter but her government didn't trust bankers and regulated them. At least in those days we new how much we could borrow and how much we could afford to pay back
